Grubb dropping knowledge.
Do Square own them IP’s now or do CD and Eidos own the IP’s ? Cause if not i don’t think MS want them without the IP’s.
Square usually does not let go of IPs. Even the Hitman folks have only exclusive development rights, the IP is still with Square.
I suspect that depends on how many zeroes are on the check they get offered. But who knows if they will have reasonable expectations about what the IPs are worth.
If there is any truth to the rumour they want to offload their Western operation, they are going to have to let the IP associated with it go too, if they want a decent price for it.
As WB allegedly found out last year, you can try and sell studios while keeping the IP, but you’ll be laughed out of the room if you still want good money for them.
Reasonable expectations? From Square?
Might have better luck convincing EA that Dead Space will do good numbers, but not Battlefield numbers.
Yeah, but then you’d need studios to make those games. It’s more likely to happen when Xbox buys a studio, the studio wants to work on X IP, then Xbox arranges to acquire or license the IP.
Without studios to make the games, IP acquisition would result in little more than legacy games on Game Pass (which doesn’t require IP ownership).

IP’s without workforce is useless
Word to @pg2g
We can’t even get a superhero or star wars game, what we gonna do with buying random IP. Need that manpower.
Got no internal studios to help Initiative Develop Perfect Dark and some people wanna buy IP’s that may not get use for a whole gen
Personally think they get the whole set, studios and IP
Depends on the IP. Global Publishing could definitely work with many different teams.
Acquiring an IP isn’t necessarily a bad step, as long as the Ip had the growth potential.
Its not a bad step but acquiring Ip without any idea of what to do with it or without an idea of who is gonna work it is a waste.
Absolutely, but I would assume we’re all working under the assumption that if MS specifically acquired an IP, they already had a plan in place.
If that’s the case, I got a long list of IP I’d love to see them buy haha.
MS should absolutely acquire the ex-Eidos/Square West, both studios and IPs are severly mismanaged by the japanese oversight, it’s happening since 10 years now.
That’s the only option in that scenario that makes sense.
I’d love to see it!
Worse comes to worst, they could push for a remaster of some older titles while a team gets ready for a new entry!
