Phil specifically mentioned years ago that they aren’t too interested in teams that have only worked on one platform (this was per an interview IIRC).

Like I said though, this was years ago. Things can change.

An example of that was when he talked about no wanting to buy publishers ( I think it was in 2018 ) due to difficulties with doublons and such, and then boom, Zenimax and nobody was fired.

Exactly. Plans and strategies can change over time. Especially if partnerships are put in play first.

I would much rather see Xbox buy 52 more studios rather than buy Ubisoft.

This is obviously selfish of me because I have no interest in Ubisoft titles outside of Rayman and maybe Rocksmith…….:sweat_smile:

Ubisoft would be great for GP but personally, they do nothing for me

Everything about their games feels so…uninspired, I feel the same about their franchises as I do about CoD, tired, stale and repetitive

But I dont think they are a realisitc buy anyway

Agree. For the money they’d spend on Ubi to churn out the same old formula – games that Xbox players would have access to anyway – they could buy so many talented small and mid sized outfits and invest in them to do something they couldn’t have before.

With the number of employees Ubisoft has, they should be able to release at least 10 AAA games every year.

Just a side note of relevance to the “they have too many staff” crowd (not aimed at people worrying about Ubisoft, but in general), LinkedIn was purchased in 2016 with a staff of almost 10,000 employees. I don’t know why so many people continue to regurgitate the same lines, as if they hold a definitive understanding on what Microsoft will do or who they’re talking to, when they don’t even have a definitive understanding on things Microsoft has already done….

They are a company of 181,000 employees altogether and have been increasing at an average rate of 9% over the past decade, so an acquisition of a large publisher, in terms of staff, wouldn’t be an outrageous endeavor that would suddenly become too hard for HR to handle… it would be the norm. Considering further that the limited-integration methods applied to Bethesda, LinkedIn, etc. means that much of the previous structure is retained, it explains how much more easily they can take on staff of large sizes.

A hands off, limited integration approach, insinuates the expectation that those business units continue to carry their own burden. If they have 15k employees, the expectation would be that business unit be able to contnue to maintain that level of staff and the cost associated.

The opposite of that is literally what everyone has been clamoring for MS to stop doing for ages.

Getting the IP first is the bigger prize here wile finding a team to make the game is easier owning them big IP is the bigger and way more important get.

They’re a talented team though, which would probably taken precedence in the first place. Depending on the situation, Xbox might be more interested in a partnership first

Sure, I was just clarifying they were not a “one-platform team” as others mentioned. And they seem talented enough to be able to figure out other platforms, say…Xbox Series X/S, if approached.
