No chance

Controversial opinion, but I do think The Witcher is a bigger video game IP than Batman.

Cyberpunk has poisoned the well somewhat, but I think if CDPR dropped a dope Witcher 4 trailer it would be one of the most hype video game announcements possible. (GTA/RDR definitely bigger, and maybe Naughty Dog’s next would be bigger. But that’s it?)

The Witcher 4 is going to be huge. 30m sold again

I still think Armature is in play.

It’s not a controversial opinion… it’s literally the one borne from data… at least for a singular title. But if you include the Arkham series to the total of Witcher sales, Batman comes out on top.

You don’t buy a company like CDPR, which has businesses that run counter to Xbox, because they’ve had two successful titles… that cost a ton of money and time to make (I like how @Hindle mentions Rocksteady’s slow turnout - caused by cancelled projects- but ignores how long of a gap between Witcher 3 and CP2077). Add in the extremely toxic work environment and repeated exclusionary PR, and you’ve got a company that MS wouldn’t touch with a 12 foot pole.

Consistency is what makes a solid investment of this sort, and two successful titles (combined with a completely botched launch of the second), doesn’t make consistency.

Food for thought. Would you rather have:

  • Take Two
  • Capcom + WB

On the one hand, Rockstar games are the biggest in the business, owning Bioshock is dope, and adding 2k Sports games to Game Pass would be pretty huge from a mainstream value perspective.

On the other hand, Resident Evil + Monster Hunter + Street Fighter + Ace Attorney + Mega Man + Mortal Kombat + Monolith open-worlds. You’re potentially adding two AAA games from huge important franchises annually.

Witcher 3 sold about 30 million copies lifetime, which is more than double the top selling Batman game (Arkham City, around 13 million).

I wouldn’t necessarily say the Witcher license is implicitly bigger than Batman, but Witcher 3 was a huge event in the same way Fallout and Elder Scrolls games were. Bigger than any Batman game ever has been.

Cant wait to see the results this gen. The next Witcher game vs Gotham Knights, or Suicide Squad, folks start taking your bets now

Big LOL!

Sorry to burst your bubble @Hindle but you always seem to speak so categorically like you knew everything while it is not the case at all

Bookmarking your post & we’ll see

Good sports man and I like it!

Let’s go!

That’d be wild if they could get both to sell. I’d definitely take WB and Capcom. Even if you were to lose license for WB you then have so many IPs yourself that you can have absolutely no worries and just toss them some IP.

I get what you’re saying. But I believe Witcher 3 sold nearly as many games as the entire Arkham series on its own.

I’m not arguing that they should acquire CDPR, just that Witcher is a huge franchise and possibly bigger overall (in the video game space) than Batman is. [EDIT: No, I AM arguing that. And therefore, this conversation is not off-topic.]

I think it sold more then Arkham. The last one sold 5m and we never got any updates

This is getting super OT, maybe start a Witcher VS Batman thread

In a fight? Definitely go with batman.

I mean Nobody can deny Witcher 3 is one of the most successful games of the last generation but its not bigger than Batman overall.

Prior to TW3 the series collectively had 8m in sales while Arkham City alone did like 13m on its own.
