Xbox Acquisition |OT3| 100% Organic Growth

I think Grubb (or someone similarly reputable) speculated that as well. If I were MS, I wouldn’t want Pitchford as an employee either.

Very possibly. With the flight simulator deal and the sequel plague’s tale requim coming out next year, they can lock them up and fund a big project for their next project

a wretched hive of scum and villainy…

I don’t necessarily agree that Xbox needs games for kids as part of their first party / Game Pass.

There was a day when the kid market was essentially the foundation of the video game market. Younger kids were a great market because they had a ton of free time and could bug their parents relentlessly for games, occasionally getting them to relent (and especially around birthdays / holidays). But while this remains largely true, there’s been a significant change in the market that upends that thinking a bit: GaaS and F2P.

I have two kids, now 10 and 14, and I don’t really remember them ever bugging me to buy them a game other than Black Ops: Cold War (or maybe it was the COD before that). Maybe at one point I bought Minecraft years and years and years ago. Instead, they’ve asked me for Robux and money for battle passes for Fortnite / COD / R6S.

That segment of the market, where people are playing one or two GaaS/F2P games for months and months and months on end, is ill-suited for Game Pass where the value is predicated on a consistent stream of a variety of games.

And I think Phil Spencer knows this. When he talks about wanting to add E-rated games to the Game Pass library, I think it’s a lot more about broadening the genres on offer in the service. I think it’s about having studios who are focused on delivering lighter fun-oriented content that breaks up the darker / edgier / violent content that looks to be 75% of what first party is currently working on.

100% agree . I’ve seen more kids play GTA 5 and Doom eternal than E-rated games . :phil_lmao:

I’ve seen more adults play Farmville than anything, maybe they should get that :joy:

Saying xbox has not leveraged the minecraft IP (something like Dungeons for example which has barely ties to the main game and is a spin off) to exclusively sell xbox’s or subscriptions I think is a fair take since its up there top 3 IP in gaming which would move a lot in xbox favor but hey who cares since they bring in money.

Show us the full house, Satya!

I’ve long expected Asobo to be acquired and can’t really figure out why. Unless they don’t want to be, you’d think it was a no brainer for MS.

Because they have like a 10 year deal with Microsoft right now and They have probably first rights to them? Im not worried about Asobo with the current leadership.

Does that 10 year deal give them exclusivity to Plague Tale Requiem? Too late for that now.

Regardless, Asobo does a good line in third person adventure alongside their excellent job on Flight Sim.

Can’t think of any downsides of putting a ring on it and getting whateve their next third person adventure is as an exclusive franchise.

Yeah and I’m happy about that for sure. That’s good for me, but it’s not going to move the needle for Xbox as a brand in the way exclusives do.

This type of game is one MS could agruably do with more of (and Sony a bit less of ) – narrative driven, graphically spectacular, third person adventures.

I don’t think it matters a lot that Requiem isn’t exclusive as the first one wasn’t. But I would want to see them bought, given a full length game budget and get the next adventure franchise on the books as an Xbox brand.

Hello Games is underrated.

Definitely. I desperately want them and Supergiant. The unique, creative, absolutely awesome games we would get from those studios along with Double Fine would be awesome and something not found elsewhere.

In 2017 they had 5 studios + Global Publishing, they now have 23 studios including Global Publishing. I’d say they have shown that they are “all in on gaming” already.

More studios will be added over time, of that I have no doubt I just don’t think anyone knows when the next acquisition will happen or who it will be.

Somebody earlier likened this thread to a football transfer window speculation thread and I think that’s a perfect analogy as they often descend into madness, hilarity and insanity as well, though the good thing about those threads is they only last a couple of months, this is 24/7 365, lol

What it has to do with anything? People rightfully want to know why Mojang does not provide better treatment to Xbox considering that it is the first party studio.

Kids have different age. People start to play games from the very young ages and even we had a lot of games on Sega and NES (and most of them would be considered e-rated) before switching to PC. I doubt that many children of 3+ year old had Doom experience.

What is the better treatment. Mojang literally worked with Microsoft to help them improve their acquisition and integration process and was basically why they were able to go add so many studios.
