I pop into this thread once or twice a day, not because I want to read a serious thread about acquisitions but because of the hype, wild theories and people explaining why they want ‘x’ to be acquired. It’s a bit of fun and there should be no expectations from it.
I think the problem with some of the stuff on twitter is that they are so definitive and absolute that people can only be unhappy when they mostly don’t come true.
I will say one thing for sure though, I still don’t know why any of you here want a SEGA acquisition. Not a clue.
Sega fills alot of holes that the gamepass portfolio has. Microsoft needs consistent big pc releases sega has a number of PC centric studios. Gamepass needs JRPG support, Atlus is one of the more prominent JRPG studios. Microsoft needs more E rated content Sega has Sonic which can generate alot of E rated content for that base. As a service that is trying to target all gamers it fills of the weak points.
Personally I dont want SEGA acquisition and I think there are much better options in that price range BUT I do understand where some people are coming from . Those people would tell their reasoning in a while so
If Microsoft were going to make a massive investment in a Japanese company, Sega would make a ton of sense. The PC stuff is great but the sky would be practically limitless with their IP. I just have a hard time imagining it happening.
But Sega branding with Microsoft funding in Japan would be huge.
Of the realistically available options I don’t know who would fill that better. You could may be argue WB but thats bringing you an audience you already have and does nothing for E rated content which is sorely lacking, jrpg content that is missing, and feeding the more PC centric gamers.
One of the only other JRPG companies that would be available that would be possible would be falcom. Paradox, would be one of the only other players i could think of who would potentially be available who makes more PC focused games that could still workably release on console. E rated games get to be a bit more difficult depending on what you want. Not many other options broadly cover multiple E or kid friendly categories as well as sega could.
Imagine that just out of the blue a news article appears that Xbox has acquired Take Two or WB, whether that’s months from now, a year or longer. Apparently we won’t know beforehand. However, Jason claimed that he was aware of it, so I guess good on him that he didn’t spoil Bethesda?
Hopefully he’ll do the same when another huge acquisition comes to his knowledge.
I do hope a big one, or two are on the horizon. Their friends at Sony aren’t sitting still and you can bet they are trying to tie annoying deals to many big games, and since Xbox clearly isn’t really into that anymore this is the one thing they can do, lol.
This page of the forum serves exactly the same role as the Transfer Speculation page on football sites. And, as with football sites, it is the busiest and also most ‘full of nonsense’ page - just there for dreamers to have fun
I don’t necessarily mean filling all those holes with one acquisition. As mentioned above WB and TT but there is complications there with licensing. Ubisoft would be another, while not helping on the PC focused side you would be getting stuff like Rayman & Raving Rabbids along with all their AAA i.p.
Right but thats one specific category where Sega is filling multiple holes. Outside of TT games WB isn’t filling as many specific needs.
Saying TT games is like being on a ship with multiple holes and one person has materials to fill all the holes, and another person has the materials to fill one hole. The quality of the one hole may be higher but it doesn’t negate the water coming in from the other holes. Where if you can fill all the holes at once that’s the better option. And filling all the holes doesn’t mean you can’t go back later to the person with the better quality patches later.
Idk. WB fills the fighting game hole, e rated, 3rd person cinematic, and open world/sandbox. It fills all of those with top notch, industry leading content.
