Right now we are in the world of Matt Booty, Phil Spencer, and even Sataya Nadella outright stating that they are not done with acquisitons and that they are open to further ‘inorganic growth’.
Is there any wonder that the Xbox community has been in a lather over acquisitions since?
Anytime they want to, after a big acquisition or a few small ones or whatever, they can just say “we’re happy where we are with first party, we’ve got the teams we need, if the right opportunity arises we will act, but don’t expect lots more acquisitions in the immediate term” – and everyone will take the message and chill out.
I agree that Xbox probably doesn’t want to set a precedence with a singular date for acquisitions. If anything, Phill will just ask Todd to livestream himself breakdancing on top of a PS5 come Monday.
WB Games would make sense only if MS could secure exclusivity of their upcoming games like Gotham Knights, Hogwarts, Suicide Squad and whatever Monolith is working on. Outside of TT and Netherrealm, their studios are really slow. Rocksteady if Suicide Squad will launch in 2022 (and it could be delayed), will be 7 years between releases. So their next title could launch in 2030s.
TT is other worldly in terms of releases though, they’re a studio that would dramatically impact the game output from Xbox.
Avalanche and Monolith look good to provide 2 to 3 games a gen. Rocksteady is definitely slower recently, you have to wonder if that’s changing directions pack of funding etc, because the Arkham Trilogy wasn’t particularly slow in development.
That probably wouldn’t happen, they never backtracked on already announced platforms.
A lot of the projects of WB got cancelled mid development. That’s why they take so long to push out games. I would like to know the reason, why there are so much cancellations. Is it because WB demanded more GAAS or because the projects didn’t come together.
He’s probably saying that it would be a big acquisition. Just open the reddit thread about the potential T2 acquisition and you’ll see what I mean. Lots of comments saying that this would break monopoly laws lol.
But anyway, I doubt that Skulzzi actually knows something about acquisitions.
He meant MS is buying big publisher ( he meant take two ofc ) and some idiots on internet are going to say that its a monopoly ( like they already do all the time ) .
They may be referring to the rumor(s) of Sony dissuading smaller developers from doing Game Pass deals if they ever want to release on PlayStation in the future.
I kind of doubt they’d announce the next aquisition(s) on the 1 year anniversary for acquiring Zenimax/Bethesda. It would be rather odd to announce it on that day since Bethesda and Microsoft would probably do some celebration stuff for the anniversary. Like, announcing the next aquisition(s) on that day would be a bit rude to Bethesda in a way. .
