Xbox Acquisition |OT3| 100% Organic Growth

I think the deal between SE and Disney is not going well, imo it was their last attempt to salvage the western division, they clearly don’t know how to manage it.

I’m sure Microsoft could get the best out of Crytek. Besides the funding and the tech. There is a problem with trust and recruiting for Crytek. They haven’t paid their employees for months, that sure as hell would stop me from applying for a job. But with Microsoft in the background as employer, that would be completely out of the room.

If that happens I would consider applying to them. I work as a DevOps Engineer, maybe they would have a position for me.

And that’s all it needs to make Crytek the best it ever was. Some decent funding, security and passionate people. Less cocaine wouldn’t hurt either.

Ehh I wouldn’t call Hunt Showdown an exclusive for Xbox. It came out on the preview program and released at the same time as PS when it officially launched meaning besides Ryse there was nothing really between both companies.

In the end as shared before SE has partnered with Xbox far more than Crytek ever has. Some discredit the partnerships it’s western studios have had with Xbox… Not sure why they are the same compan But sure okay looking at it’s eastern divisions since the 360 days they started showing support with FF all the way to the Xbox One.

For some reason they make FF exclusive to PS and all of that gets thrown out the window. Other studios like Capcom make SFV exclusive, Monster Hunter games are still Nintendo exclusive, Sega still has the Persona games exclusive. But Square is the studio getting ostrisized.

Overall I don’t think you’re guys beef is with Square. I think it’s just personal preference. Some of you just don’t like FF so don’t really overall like the company. Crytek on the other hand, some of you really latched onto Ryse and it’s potential even though there really isn’t anything special there than any other company can reproduce. It’s just that you latched onto that game and want to see more. I get it, fans exist for this reason.

I am just saying in terms of quality content in an unbiased, I don’t really care for either studio to be honest, I think Square Enix has a lot more to offer than Crytek does.

You guys can’t just say oh Crytek is bad now but can be better with MS money, like the same argument can be applied to any other studio lol.

Most of Square Enix output has been skipping the Xbox, this is what you don’t get, most of the other companies output is released on Xbox day and date. I remember that most of the Square Enix E3 2019 conference games were not planned to be released on Xbox.

It’s not about just Final Fantasy, it’s about Mana series, Babylon’s Fall, Forspoken, NEO TWEWY, the Xbox 360 former exclusive remasters that were PS4 exclusives, then you have cases where KH3 DLC was first on Playstation and Avengers has Spiderman as “Playstation Advantage”. Only Final Fantasy Origin is their next release to be on Xbox.

You’re making a lot of assumptions about people that have been commenting for a year on this topic, much of which is verifiably wrong. I love Final Fantasy for example, but I also understand that from a business perspective the series has been waning in actual popularity (ie sales) for over a decade now and a SE purchase wouldn’t change that. Nor would it change the fact that a majority of their studios would be tied to previous agreements of exclusivity, thus there would be no direct benefit to Xbox for years. Also, aside from revising history, you seem to conflate inaccurate data to make a point; Monster Hunter World, the most successful Capcom game and MH entry, was released on Xbox and continues to be extremely successful. Sure, Persona and one entry of Street Fighter allude entry on the Xbox console, but one exception for Capcom and Sega, respectively, doesn’t equate to the repeated pattern by Square Enix to exclude Xbox from a bevy (read: multiple) of franchises and entries (at least four FF entries over the next few years alone). If those games ever do see an Xbox entry, we’re talking years later and that is the other crux of the argument for why their games specifically don’t do well on Xbox nowadays: it’s self-fulfilling prophecy.

Maybe before arguing against people’s opinions or the logical lack of business sense for acquiring Square, perhaps you should get your information straight…

Honestly, Phil should use this post as a shopping list.

Yeah, “poor SE ostracised by Xbox gamers” was the take I was missing, lol.

You can definitely feel pessimistic and share that pessimism. But it looks like you’re stating it as a matter of fact.

I think pragmatic and contrary opinions are needed in this thread. I’m ok with Devils Advocates as well. But you or I stating something as fact when we have no idea, that is an issue.

“Troll” is thrown out when people sense that we’re being insincere. If you or I stated that we’re skeptical about Japanese publishers looking to sell, or think that Xbox hasn’t built a solid business case to these companies to sell, people would see that we’re coming from a logical and sensical place despite our pessimism.

If we flat out say, “it’s not going to happen.” we start to look insincere and that we’re not interested in exploring the topic.

I think we should explore those topics. Why would a Japanese publisher that has survived decades want to sell to Microsoft? If companies like Sega or Capcom have been growing in recent years, does this mean that they will be less resistant to acquisition? There are really good discussions to be had here and “it’s not going to happen” doesn’t add a lot of substance.

So you can definitely play devil’s advocate and be pessimistic, I think it’s necessary. But it needs to be sincere (I’m including myself and all of us in this, I’m not pointing the finger at you).

It’s for these reasons we should first understand why SE is so far from Xbox, it’s like they feel bad supporting the platform (I don’t buy anymore the “secure money” argument from exclusives if no other big japanese publisher does it at this scale), every port they make from their eastern division feels so forced (and paid big time, lol), who knows. If even Koei Tecmo is beginning to support Xbox better, there is some big problem under the sand, like Shpeshal Nick said during one of the latest podcasts, if even Phil can be wrong like an insider (about the long dreamed FF14 port), nothing is sure.
