LOL followed him on Twitter, he’s an uhh…very interesting individual.(Could be a culture gap as well)
Back on topic, I think we receive acquisition, either purchased or intent to purchase, news at E3. I don’t think Xbox has stopped being aggressive despite the current slow news cycle in regards to acquisitions. These things definitely take time.
I think @Shpeshal_Nick talked about it on Xboxera Podcast how he was offering a Forza Horizon code to him because Kamiya was asking for a way to purchase it. He banned him for it.
Anyways PG would still be a good acquisition. CyberConnect2 would a good action focused japanese studio as well
What would happen if you banned Kamiya? . Nah, I always found him too rude, he’s funny and makes great pop culture references in his games, but man… he can be an arrogant dick and often unearned arrogance at that.
I’m not a fan of PG being acquired due to their output ratio. Xbox needs studios that can churn out quality games in a decent time frame to bolster Gamepass subs from what I can ascertain. PG is the exact opposite of that. That along with Kamiya being a character, I don’t think it’s a good fit.
Their output is similar to Obsidian. If Microsoft keep acquiring studios and publishers the output should increasing despite of some studios with slower release schedule.
Kamiya could leave if he still complains about random stuff.
I agree with Kamiya being a character, but Platinum has released a game every year (aside from 2018) for quite a while now. Their games (that aren’t licensed IP) 90% of the time review pretty well.
I’m not sure I agree with the comparison between Obsidian and Platinum Games; Obsidian may have released a lot of lower budget titles and whatnot, but their critical reception has consistently been very high… Platinum Games is all over the place the past few years. Did we forget about the Legend of Korra and the absolute garbage that was? Furthermore, Obsidian is actually capable of largely hitting their deadlines and fulfilling projects. Where’s Bayonetta 3 at from Platinum for example?
Personally, I would argue that objectively there are better studios to target in Japan, if that’s Microsoft’s prerogative, with less troubling project management and abrasive/racist leadership.
My thought on the licensed titles was that was Activisions doing. They’ve been documented time and time again for doing this to even their own studios.
Look at Amazing Spider-Man 2, Deadpool, and Tony Hawk Pro-Skater 5 for reference.
I hope so. I love Housemarque but no interest in roguelike/lite type games. Would love to see Microsoft acquire them and expand them to two teams. One for the third person action adventure story driven games but straightforward and linear. And the second team to develop twin stick isometric shooters and 2D platformers. I would be in gaming heaven!!!
At least, with Tango, a Japanese Xbox exclusive is now an inevitability… It’s still gonna take a while for their first XGS game after Ghostwire though…
We’re approaching 7 years since D4, so to say a Japanese Xbox exclusive has been a long time coming is an understatement . Really hoping this Kojima thing is real.
I’m interested in peoples thoughts. Right now does Xbox need more devs that are efficient and put out a new game basically every 2ish years or so they need the devs that will put out 2 bangers a generation.
I think they want both (as long as the price is right, IP is valuable, and/or the talent is long term).
Obviously they want consistent releases, but having multiple teams kinda makes that moot after a certain point. Don’t want to hit the point where your games are canablizing each other for attention, but that’s a long way away.
