I do think there will be some studios in similar situation this year. We’ve seen how big studios and publishers were impacted by covid. Smaller ones will be as well and they are much more likely to not have the resources to sustain themselves through it.
Nier Automata revitalised and catapulted the Nier IP into being something that Square considers important. I’d say that’s the last top tier Platinum game (the bulk of the development staff were from Platinum). Astral chain was well received even if it didnt light the wold in fire.
Honestly? I wasn’t even thinking about Automata. For some reason it registers more in my brain as a Square game than as a Platinum game.
But Automata isn’t really that much of an action game compared to, say, Bayonetta or Metal Gear Rising. The actual combat gameplay doesn’t hold a candle to previous Platinum efforts.
I can see what you mean to an extent. It’s not as technical, but man is it diverse.
Haven’t played anything else quite like it.
I honestly thinking Platinum will be acquired by someone over the next 5-7 years. They haven’t released a bad, non-licensed game yet iirc. Their worst might’ve been Anarchy Reigns.
Who would go for them? Probably Square or Microsoft.
WHAT!? Don’t make me decide that Diplomacy has failed, and talk some sense into you? WITH MY FISTS!
Gosh, I miss my Wii U! Why does Nintendo Europe have to suck so much! . They don’t repair a design error and charge you 350 Europoly monies to fix it .
Perhaps, but it doesn’t seem like any third party is willing to give them a big budget. And of course first party games that aren’t from Microsoft aren’t going to be on Xbox, so they hardly matter in terms of “keeping a good relationship”. I very much doubt Microsoft is going to work with Platinum for a new first party game.
I’m looking forward to Bayonetta 3, for what it’s worth.
honestly i want Scalebound revival not because i want the game, nah just i want to see the reaction of media who praised the game to oblivion and people buy new xbox for it after cancelation. i want to see 20M copies sold in year 1.
Only as you guys have never given it a chance and are too much in love with the “The Third Person Action Sadventures of Boobgirl III: On today’s eppisode, Bodacious Bouncing Blonde Badgirls, Bully Boobgirl! very sad!” ;).
All kidding aside that game was fantastic, as long as you used both Touchscreen and Controls for the combine attacks. The music was fantastic too, it was a true blue skies game as well with a lot of references to Tokasatsu and Adventure Films. A labour of love for many of the composers too.
So did the game fail :(… or did you fail earth and kept doing diplomacy. You should have read the manual .
