Xbox Acquisition |OT2| Something, Something, Snowball Effect

It’s good that Netflix will be stepping in to light a fire under MS feet so we can get some movement. When Google gave up, I think MS relaxed just a little bit. It’s good to have more competition.

This could absolutely make Microsoft get even more aggressive to have the content pipeline in place.

For now, we still have to see what Netflix will actually do with the games section. Are they gonna be like Game Pass ? But that means a ton of investments like Microsoft is already doing, and for Netflix, that would be on top of their movies/TV show investments. They would also need to revamp their cloud infrastructure, because games on the cloud are significantly different than movies on the cloud. And as you may know, Netflix doesn’t offer a download solution.

Or will they do something like Apple Arcades, with more mobile games ? Or just an extension of their own content, with games based on their IP’s to drive more engagment ? They said they don’t plan to increase the current price, so I don’t think they plan to have a big gaming service on the scale of Game Pass coming next year. We will need more informations on what they will actually do.

Listen, frying your gonads on a PS3 won’t do jack. However, I’d love to see MS lockup Asobo! Especially since, their the ones about to launch the most ground breaking game in history on console.

Does Netflix even have the cash flow to enter the gaming space? I doubt they’re acquiring any developers and will go the same route as Stadia.

I do not expect AAA from Amazon. It doesn’t need to be though.

That’s what I said.

Anyways, FRUADS aside, this Netflix stuff only serves as a benefit to sell bigger acquisitions to Microsoft’s investors.

I really don’t think anything is going to be come from this Netflix stuff.

I really think they’ll try, see how expensive/time consuming/hard it is, nope out, then partner with somebody.

My guess would be more mobile type games. So, the same type of stuff you can already download to your phone or TV.

Yeah, I expect that, with these games based on their IP’s to drive further engagment. The fact they said it won’t cost more tells me this is not something on Game Pass scale, or they would have to up the price.

I guess they’ll try to make games about their ips like stranger things first. I really don’t see netflix going into the trouble to make new gaming ips now.

With Netflix on the table. MS should focus on bidding for WBG. They need E games and Fighting games.

Would make no sense to do that. Why not just download the game to your phone directly then? Mobile games are small.

I think it will be mobile game type production values, but some kind of interactive multiplayer hook. And something where you can use your phone as your controller like Jackbox.

There are plenty of people who play games on their tv’s they could just as easily play on their phone. Not everyone wants to do that though. Also, what you’re describing is something people could also just play on their phone. Your own argument doesn’t make sense.

While I agree. They already spend millions on original content. I still think they’ll be shocked at how much fan dedication(fan boys) actually play into the popularity of a gaming service. The only way I can see them lasting longer than Stadia and Luna is if they either get a ton of gaming content and add it to their existing Netflix subscription or if they don’t add it to their existing subscription service they’ll need to buy a ton of studios Embracer would be a decent starting point along with the WB studios. Not sure if they’ll be willing to go all in for that though.

That being said this is giving me signs that Netflix may be the one to acquire not only the WB studios but the Discovery/WB group as a whole. That would give them all the orginal content they would need for Netflix, along with replacements for their lost Marvel shows, and gaming content as well. It actually makes perfect sense for them to go after WB/Discovery after the stiff competition from Disney.
