Could anyone imagine what Devolver Digital could do with substantial infusion of cash? Or a longstanding partnership with GamePass PC or GamePass Console? I know their games aren’t for everyone but I would love the variety it would bring. Their partnership pace is publishing around 10 games a year. They are limited by their own resources, around 20 employees and their assets.

Devolver is a publisher. They are the ones who infuse the cash into the devs

A partnership with them to bring their games to Game Pass would be cool, though. Just like Microsoft seems to have with Team17 and, to a lesser extent, with Focus Home.

Devolver is cool, I just always feel weirded out by buying a publisher that doesn’t have any internal teams (that I’m aware of).

If you’re looking for indie relations, I feel it’d be best just to patch the talent from Devolver.

They publish awesome games though. So the partnership route works!

After the massive success of Hades, Supergiant is one step closer to become a AAA studio. They would be an excellent acquisition for Microsoft.

they’re seeking an IPO for just that! Gaming is super hot and they can get a high valuation due to Fall Guys, might as well get the payday

…nterested in or has a letter of interest in acquiring. (All of these game have Microsoft backing before the talks). All are Indies/ID@Xbox partners.

A studio that will be using the cloud to make their next game to achieve a new way of exploration in games.

Gameplay/Storytelling is their core when it comes to the games they make and they going to make something a lot of people will want to play. (this one is imminent for this week)

A creative figure has started a new studio with Independent backing and support to create a new immersive simulator

EDIT: Tubular Bells isn’t an acquisition but a partnership with one of the industry giants and a key industry figure. Xbox been funding them along the way and will be coming on day 1 to game pass and possible a timed exclusive. Think Inside

Exactly, but there is a kumbaya minority who thinks 15 years ahead, I’d say to focus on present and close future, I don’t see Google or Apple ever making an actual game for example.

Phil clearly regards Playstation as a major competitor… if he didn’t he wouldn’t be so agressive in acquiring IP and studios.

Right, well except they acquired CroTeam of Serious Sam fame in October 2020, but I’m focusing on their publishing talent. Their talent of finding and helping to bring forth those truly unique and weird style Indie Developer games.

Would be great for variety if they could ramp up to triple their output and be included in GamePass. Bonus is if a game sees critical success, they could extend partnership to the devs for their next title. Maybe even acquire and grow that studio as first party.

Also why Supergiant was specifically mentioned in the middle of exclusively XGS names for the extended showcase…

not necessarily verifying the information specifically, more that it comes from a place that could possibly be in the know, as always, when something is “vetted” it comes with caveats like “this person is in a position where they could have access to such info, but the individual comments cant be verified on their own” etc etc

The problem with a verification process that determines if someone is an “insider” based on if they are in a position to have inside information is that it allows someone to claim inside information based on circumstances.

For example, let’s say someone proved they were best friends with Phil Spencer. However they proved it doesn’t matter in this case, but they were able to prove that they are in a position to have inside information. Then they go off spouting nonsense and are consistently wrong, but because they are in a position to have information the community constantly believes them and the mods are forced to stick by their stance of “this person could know things”.

But then we have someone like Nick or Grubb who are more than often right and have a reliable track record. I have no idea who their sources are, but I believe them based on their track record, not because I know who their sources are.

I don’t know which would cause a bigger meltdown, two Bethesda cost-level acquisitions ($7+$8) within close time frame or a single 2.5x-3x Bethesda cost-level acquisition ($20). But I absolutely want to find out.
