What was the other forum ?
From the User named eastmen. But that guy also said Series X would launch 400$ and Series S 200$ back then.
I LOVE the Ori games and what his small studio accomplished, but anyone that has followed some of Thomas’ comments over the years can tell that he is a rather arrogant opinionated guy with takes that many would not agree with too.
So, let me ask a question to the people that are pushing for Microsoft to buy Avalanche from Nordisk:
Why stop there? What about buying Relic and/or Creative Assembly from Sega? Or Splash Damage from Leyou/Tencent? Or Insomniac from Sony? Or Toys for Bob from Activision? etc.
I’m all for fun and speculation…but some tempered realism wouldn’t hurt, either. Nordisk has been making a lot of investments in gaming in the last few years, which doesn’t really signal the idea that they’re looking to sell off one of their most notable studios. Just because Microsoft has partnered with them on Contraband and Second Extinction doesn’t really make me think they’re a viable acquisition target, but rather they’re just partnering with them in the same way they worked with Sumo Digital to make Crackdown 3.
I’m not saying we need to focus our discussions on the few privately-held companies left (which seem to have been Microsoft’s focus of acquisitions so far) because frankly, that’d probably get pretty boring within a few days. I’m just asking for some realism. And I’m a Sega stan almost to the level of @NierlyCrazy, even if Sega is publicly traded. I don’t know, I’m just some idiot on an Internet forum…but I’d rather focus my idiocy on something that could likely come true?
@FeiEX you’re famous!
I think the big thing for each scenario is if all parties find the deal beneficial.
Whether it be a private/public buyout, that’s really the main thing that matters in the end.
I do think we’ll see Microsoft go for a public acquisition eventually if they’re truly looking to expand with another publisher, especially in regions like Japan or South Korea, but that’s all speculation.
I do agree, we should be thinking these through with an ounce of realism, but we’re also talking about Microsoft. If you had told me two years ago Microsoft was acquiring Zenimax I would’ve thrown you out a window.
Just watched the new XboxERA Podcast…
@Shpeshal_Nick you looked more fidgety than usual during the Xbox acquisition segment.
Something is on the rise if even Klobrille has started teasing.
Maybe.
Or maybe @Shpeshal_Nick really had to use the Dunny.
This literally applies to any acquisition, regardless of their status of being a subsidiary or independent studio.
I am sure Gabe has had plenty of enquires about selling Valve but he has obviously knocked them back because he does not want to sell and let’s be honest, he hardly needs the money lol.
Something we have to think about though… does he plan on retiring soon? Who does he plan on having succeed him?
Not saying it’s probable, but it’s definitely not impossible.
That’s actually the only time I can see him potentially selling Valve is when he decides to retire and not to pass the company on to a relative or something. It would be kind of similar what George Lucas did with Lucas Films.
MICROSOFT x BLIZZARD
@Sikamikanico Microsoft’s Fiscal Years run July 1 through June 30th as per Microsoft Investor Relations - FAQs
Wouldn’t touch Blizzard with a 10ft stick.
I’ll take Mike Ybarra and Rod Ferguson back, but that’s it lol.
Coalition is way better off without Rod right now lol.
