I mean, they bought Obsidian and a few days later they announced The Outer Worlds(PS, XB1 and PC) at TGA 2018…
Only real issue I have with IP acquisitions is that MS already have a ton of dormant IPs they aren’t doing anything with. (Looking at you, Shadowrun and Crimson Skies ) barring that that there are a few they could do something with. Deus Ex would be a good one in the hands of Arkane. Sega isn’t really doing anything with the Panzer Dragoon IP and it’s creator has already made multiple exclusives for Xbox. They could do a FF 7 type remake of Panzer Dragoon Saga before putting out a completely new one.
So if it’s not IO, and Avalanche is finally being put to rest, then who is it?
Days before E3 everybody was saying 1 then 3 then 5, and now we hear nothing other than “Well it wasn’t THIS studio”.
So who was it?
Was it just mixed signals?
Matt on OtherERA seemed sure, others here seemed sure, so what’s the word?
Think people confused the Avalanche thing due to how the teaser portrays XGS before the studio name.
It would carry on their trend of acquiring a team already committed to an upcoming multiplat game with another publisher (Plague Tale Requiem).
Wouldn’t be surprised if they did it on purpose to kick off the acquisition with a little multiplat cash back before getting them working on exclusive stuff.
That would be rather silly wouldn’t it?
It couldn’t have been that.
That pre-E3 stuff was such a mess, people just throwing out names and everyone running with it.
Be curious to know what has a reasonable source and what was heard from a person who heard it from a person who heard it on era.
Exactly.
I kind of want answers because everybody’s here waiting for Xbox acquisitions when there’s a chance it was all mixed signals, and we’re still going to be waiting.
We know they want more, but all we have right now is insider teases, but it seems maybe mixed signals?
IDK.
I trust Matt cuz he’s not caught up in the xbox community. He has no need to jump the gun or read too much into things that might not exist.
I trust Matt because he fucking HATES acquisitions by anybody, so if he says it’s happening, then it’s happening.
which matt is this and what did he previously get right?
It’s just Matt. He’s over on OtherERA, and he’s gotten some things right. He famously defended Xbox Series X being more powerful during the reign of 13.5 TF PS5 Kleefangaming.
Boy was that something.
We guess he works in the industry at some level?
most of the sony based insiders are really bad. KtharsisT, klee, foxy. Then if matt is saying something there should be something up soon
I got a question for everyone cheerleading a NR acquisition. It’s about the IP. Everyone seems to agree that WB wouldn’t sell their DC IP’s. But at the same time everyone just assumes that they would sell the mortal kombat ip. Why? Just because it’s not DC? It’s still a WB IP.
Because its a “video game”-oriented ip more than a multimedia ip.
Maybe that “Xbox is putting out fake acquisitions to weed out leakers” thing might be true. Who knows? It is odd that so many insiders were wrong and are backpedaling now.
Also, if WB want to make good money from the sale, they need to include the MK Ip. Otherwise, Netherrealm wont worth much without it.
I don’t think backpeddling is the right word.
Of course I’m entitled to my opinion. Yours did nothing to sway me, at all. Agree to disagree.
A SE purchase would be the most influential thing that could happen. It would allow them to own the AAA JRPG and other Japanese developers would need to better support the platform as a result.
