Xbox Acquisition |OT2| Something, Something, Snowball Effect

Yes. Between 2009 and 2013 is just 4 years. Not 12 years.

As long as the vision is ‘acquire gaming communities’ the rest will fall in place: IPs, devs, prebuilt studios and content.

For instance with Zenimax - they acquired (in a sense) the entire fan following of TES, Doom, Fallout and Dishonored.

I’d love to see either:

A) Matt Booty says “we’ve been looking around for the best developers in the world, and we decided we’re actually just really happy to have acquired Zenimax, so we’ve decided to buy them a second time. We’re going to pay off the stakeholders again.”

B) No mention of any acquisitions during show. Instead, announce something 2 days later just to prove they can. I like the idea of them keeping us on our toes & not bowing to expectations with regards to timing.

Also - Jeff Grubb’s comment about having to deny everything once you start doing it to a few comments - that applies to Aaron Greenberg as well. It would be dumb for him to always have to tell people ahead of time that they’re wrong about studio acquisitions any time someone asked him about it.

This is a second order conspiracy theory to keep the original theorists on their toes. Haha. Love it.

Prediction time, but structured this time. We can tally this after E3 this week, and release a ranked list of correct predictors.

Share 2 things in a reply to this message in the following format.

  1. No. of acquisitions
  2. Names of the acquisitions.

(This is only up until the E3 2021)

@Knottian - can we pin this post until e3 or should we create a new thread on this?

What’s this about “Twitter insiders” tweeting “27”, anybody know? (no way they’re buying 4 more studios already)

Has to be something in the middle otherwise they wouldn’t hurry to get it done for E3. So I don’t think it’s going to be a very small-unknown studio (Hello Games, ThatGameCompany…). Obviously not a big one like Bethesda. Something like Avalanche seems about right to me.

Timdog tweeted ‘27’ then removed it.

I can believe it. Jez said MS was pursuing 4x AAA games with external partners plus KojiPro…why not put a ring on them straight up? Especially if they have other games between now and then that might appear on other consoles.

1 studio was enough but more :flushed:

nobody ever talked about Arrowhead Studios right?
