Also GSC is in Ukraine so dont think thats a wise investment and mega risky. For Larian if Xbox had a checklist for what studios to buy based on Genre they would be near the bottom.

It was definitely leaked months in advance, but that’s not what I was talking about. Lol
Here’s how I remember it:
Early 2018:
- M&A guy is seen at various places.
- @Klobrille teases acquistion of Playground with a game of “2 Lies and 1 Truth” on OtherERA
- Matt on OtherERA comments “Surprise” days before E3 as it’s confirmed that M&A guy is sitting on board of directors or something at Playground.
- E3 2018
- Later that summer, like in July, Klob starts mentioning Obsidian in the vaguist terms mentioning “when lava meets water”
- Klob gets too close and back off
- Kotaku article around August/Septemeber
- X018 announced, Phil specifically calls out previous X0 where Rare was acquired
- Others say it won’t happen there
- Then Microsoft offers “Obisidan set” to all Mixer viewers of X018. Zhuge tweets “Yeah okay they’re doing it” or something like that
Like a steel trap on dumb shit like this, can’t remember endearing moments from my childhood.

Look how everything changed just in 2 years!
From some kind of hype and teasing around just one studio acquisition – Obsidian – between August (when the first rumour came up) and November (official announcement) to buying a whole publisher –Bethesda Softworks – just like that with the shocking and surprising everyone blog post literally out of nowhere.

Yep. I looked up the Resetera thread about Obsidian. 72 pages of meltdowns over 1 struggling studio with no notable IPS (at the time) and I think “Man I wish I could see your faces 2 years from now when Zenimax gets got”

Maybe. To be honest the rumours sourouding acquisitions seem to be widespread within Xbox ‘insider’ circles atm.
Time for me to start over analyzing every Xbox Twitter account interaction.

It is starting to look like it may be purposeful that Xbox has not put out anything squashing any new studio acquisition news for this E3 show like they very clearly did last year. Can Sunday get here already?

Well rumours are really starting to swirl now so if Aaron Greenberg doesn’t shoot it down, because he is bound to get tweets, then something may indeed be announced. That’s what I think anyway.

That’s the exact tweet I was referring to. Like I said, so far we have had no such tweet but maybe because there wasn’t much talk about acquisitions. Now though, there is a lot of talk so I would expect a similar tweet if there is indeed no planned acquisition announcements.
