7.9k post damn, I never thought that acquisition talk is so popular.
People love shopping for new things. Especially when it’s someone else paying the billions for them lol.
yeaaah. I guess it’s just that people were all hyped about the biggest games at the event coupled with having been burned out by roguelikes at this point, but Hades came through so it maybe reinvigorated the genre a bit, who knows? It’s definitely in my most wanted 2021 games list.
I’m the same as well, I own gamepass ultimate for a couple of years so I’m also excited for more studio acquisitions, don’t have to pay $100 Australian for new 1st party games anymore.
I agree with SEGA acquisition, thinking It would be the perfect choice. We should consider the strongh relationship between Xbox and Sega since the First Xbox. Two of the most important Sega’s Studios have been worked or are working on MS IP as Halo wars and Age of Empires. This acquisition Will be the Natural prosecution of that relationship. In the future Will be to much expensive to develop AAA game with second or Third parties studios, so i assume the ownership on those studios would be chepier
I agree. I don’t have we will have a big acquisition this year.
Brad Sams’ reporting says we will, though. But yeah, we just gotta wait and see.
I don’t think anybody will acquire EA.
No, I mean big acquisition. I am sure that some studio purchase will happen. But big publisher this year? I doubt. I mean when was last time big publisher purchase happened? Aside merger of Square and Enix, I think it was Sony with Psygnosis.
no he literally said bethesda sized acquisition.
Did he? I always though we should expect 2 acquisitions but each of them smaller than Bethesda.
Microsoft won’t acquire EA. Would cost $70 Billion
You can buy Sega, Capcom, Ubisoft and WB games for 20% of that. Once you have all those…well you’ve basically won…and to the winner the majority of EA game sales.
Codemasters with EA…
Gearbox with Embracer…
Deep Silver with Embracer…
While yes, these aren’t EA/Bethesda sized publishers, these are still publishers that have been acquired over recent years.
Not to mention Tencent straight up buying Leyou Holding company to get Digital Extremes, Splash Damage, etc.
At this point, there are very few private publishers left.
it seems more evident that Konami has licensed MGS and SH to PS Studios where they will be doing exclusive remakes. despite the fact that Xbox acquired Bethesda and became the western RPG platform in the world, i wanted to see them betting more on Japan. im a big fan of Silent Hill, i really wanted them on Game Pass or PC etc. unfortunately, it seems that this will not happen… i already have a PC and in the future XSS. i dont want a device anymore.
and This is why you keep Bethesda games only on Xbox/PC if Sony going to keep MULTi Plats games they dont even own then why shouldnt Xbox do it with Ips they are going to own
That’s why I say that MS should aim to prevent Sony from getting exclusive deals cheaply. Looking at those minor deals with CoD for example - it is already hard for Sony to get serious exclusives. MS should invest in that more. And in asia I am pretty sure that Sony will get tons of exclusives easily and cheap simply because Xbox has no presence there - and people are interested in asian content these days too - while Xbox does not even have office in Korea while launching gamepass there lol.
Then again looking at the signs - MS is investing and we will see the results of it. Eventually. But unlike Sony - there is no assurance that MS’ decisions will make Xbox brand stronger (I still pissed off about Gold - what a way to break a combo of incredible pro-consumer decisions).
Potential is huge.
it is an “affliction” that everyone is feeling , with these exclusive agreements or acquisitions… well, lets see what happens.
Why are you still harping on a move that they backtracked on? I swear, Microsoft is the only company that gets shit years later for a move that never actually affected consumers because they bail/change after feedback. Yes, it would have been a stupid move had you actually been affected by it, but in reality no one was because it was killed before anyone was actually affected. Where’s this same faux uproar for some of the actual anti-consumer practices like raising prices across the board for all their titles (Sony) or releasing barely-touched remasters for full price, and often time-limited. I’m all for giving Microsoft shit when they deserve it as much as the other in the Big Three, but it’s absurd to harp on about things that never came to fruition as if they did.
Just to mix it up slightly, instead of looking at specific acquisitions what do you think will happen next?
- A larger acquisition (say $500 m+)
- A smaller team (less than $500 m, yes I know thats still a big team, I mean no publishers or bungie for instance)
- E3 2018 style a bunch of companies are joining the fold, all of which are smaller.
Sony isnt going to move the needle with remasters. Nor Remakes.
