Phil’s doing whats best for gaming:
- Keeping these studios away from Google and Amazon
- Give people the option to play games on Xbox, Android or PC

The bright side with Amazon is that their games are multiplat.
The bad news, they don’t seem to manage projects very well. At all.
Yeah they havent released a single good game in the years theyve been around. Fucking took one game back into beta from full release and then cancelled it lmao. Damn Shame Double Helix got sucked into that void.
I think they’ve cancelled both of their released/in-beta titles.
New World will be their biggest test imo. I think Amazon gaming will live or die by that title.
There is a big difference between Kinect shoveleware and spending billions on a publisher who only makes licensing based games
And KOTR was like 2003. The Indy game I think was signed before MS enters talks to buy Zenimax or during talks.
I think Mobius Digital is independent and has released some great indie games and partnered with Xbox. What do people think about that?
The Outer Wilds was very well received. I don’t know if they’re looking for such small teams.
Speaking of Itagaki independent ventures Soleil Games would be a good prospective acquisition. They’ve done good contract work to overwrite their bad reputation from Devil’s Third and could use MS funding to expand and make a game of their own again.
Microsoft will purchase anything. Nothing is off the table in some weird category. They will look at everyone and we shall see if they actually purchase a big company again but they will have an acquisition this year. That I guarantee.
Nah they won’t acquire anyone the size of Take 2 or EA. And for logistical reasons won’t acquire anyone in Japan
yeah I agree, i think they might stretch to ubisoft at a maximum but I dont think its happening.
The one strategy that makes sense for purchasing a publisher in japan is imo to make them the face of your brand in asia. Say they buy capcom, in asian regions all xbox games would be published under the capcom games publishing umbrella. Hell you could even release a ‘Capcom console’ which would be just the internals from an xbox with a new shell, maybe a different controller, different UI, but aside from that the same. That way you can get an entry into the market without the associated baggage that xbox has in the region.
Fully agree
That being said, it’s unlikely they do it in my opinion
I want FROM to happen just for the meltdowns.
Amazon Game Studios will obviously start making Luna exclusives once the service launches worldwide this year.
Stadia Games and Entertainment are making Stadia exclusives too.
Amazon might be doing things differently from Google. New World will be coming to all platforms, their last two cancelled projects were pc only.
Iirc, they might be working on a LotR game too?
KOTOR was simply the first example in the line of Xbox games… I’m not sure why you ignore the rest of any message that contradicts your perspective; the Indy comment for example, the project will be funded by Microsoft before the project even gets off the ground and Microsoft would have been fully aware of the project in the pipeline before signing the purchasing agreement.
I completely agree that Xbox/MS prefer to utilize their own IP rather than licensing, I just don’t like the historical revisionism that intentionally ignores all the times that Xbox has done just that (licensing). I think Phil even stated that they don’t want to get into another Sunset Overdrive scenario where they don’t want to fund a project that they wouldn’t retain the IP on again if possible, though licensing is a bit an anomalous situation.
They already looked at EA before they started with the smaller devs. But no one is off the table meaning that they will look into anyone, not necessarily be able to get a deal done as it’s two sides. But if u think MS won’t spend money, or get a company in Japan, you’d be foolish.
