I want WB Interactive more than anyone here but it says “thank you for your game purchase”. I wouldn’t read much into this to be honest.

Asobo for sure, Bloober not sure since none of their games have been very good. Good ideas but poor execution. I would say get them to give them resources and manpower to flesh out their games, get rid of jank etc. Maybe The Medium will be their breakout game but having a 7 million budget makes me wonder why MS didn’t give them some funding, but then again its not an MS published game or an MS owned IP

Banjo and Psychonauts are not anywhere near as good as Ratchet… Ratchet is the most fun series Sony has ever had and one of the best in gaming history.
Ratchet is a good game but its very run of the mill. The platforming, shooting mechanics ei are all great and extremely polished but there isn’t anything special or unique about the mechanics, the story and writing etc.
Same with Spider-man, very highly polished but nothing unique which is why I don’t consider Insomniac to be a top tier developer.
Insomniac is great at making great games but they never really push any innovation or any new ideas. They’re the prime example of a high quality yet run of the mill developer.
I’m not going to argue Psychonauts 2 being a better game than Ratchet or not because I’ve never played the first one but it seems to be a lot more interesting from the writing and setting perspective then any of the Ratchet games.

Nah, man. Nothing has ever combined the two genres of platforming and 3rd person shooting Like R&C before or since.
Also, few games have writing as charming. I completely think you are selling the series short.
Opinions can be had but I’d place Banjo Kazooie and how that game affected me in 1998 above nearly any game. I was through and through a child of N64 and every thing I played on that is held up on a pedastool. Ratchet came out and I enjoyed it but I was a teenager by the time it released and my friends and I were much more drawn to Halo CE or even Soul Calibur 2 during that period so it just doesn’t resonate as much.

Its been the same formula since 2002, you shoot, you collect bolts etc. Its good but fundamentally hasn’t changed in nearly 20 years.

I loved Ratchet & Clank and can’t believe that I passed on it for four years. SMH. As for Spider Man, it’s an excellent game. Story and characters were great as was the visuals, audio and combat/gameplay was superb. The side content was okay. But the rest was awesome.
Why exactly would they fundamentally change it? It’s not long in the tooth and the audience isn’t growing apathetic to it, as they were with old God of War when that re-invented itself. They’ve been doing things to keep it fresh every step of the way, to the point where their most recent game is their most successful one.
We don’t reinvent the wheel just because. Games just need to be fun. It’s especially a weird thing to say when the games it’s being compared to here (Banjo & Psychonauts) are not exactly the most original things either… 3D Platformers with a lot of collectables. Banjo did do try something different with Nuts n Bolts, and the audience resented it.
So reading the reddit thread people claim they have not purchased a WB games for a long time and still got this mail. Probably some kind deal with gamepass.
Playtonic would be good if they were willing to be purchased. Even though Yooka Laylee was a turd, Impossible Lair was pretty good.

Eww I wouldn’t call ratchet a platformer. It’s more a shooter. The comparison of Psychonauts and Ratchet is wrong on it own tbh

But most of their big games have already been on gamepass?
