NANI ?!?!
Not to be too much of a kill joy, but my guess is that Microsoft is just hosting the website. Using the same logic, I could speculate that Amazon bought WB Games because the IP and ASN for wbgames.com is registered to Amazon–
Then again its been rumored that Microsoft is heavily involved interested in wb interactive so we don’t know i guess only one way to find out is this week all in all the plot thickens
I really hope MS doesn’t go for WB unless it restructures the price. Like lets say no licenses but MS would still get Rocksteady, NetherRealm, Monolith, Traveler Tales, Montreal and Avalance? Then WB can do whatever they want with the licenses, whore them out to Activision for all I care. Although MS taking over ownership of MK would be great.
Now if they can get the six studios above + all the Midway IP’s including Mortal Kombat for 2 or 3 billion? Now THAT would be a sweet deal.
Couple that with Asobo, People can Fly and Bloober? Done deal.
You and I… same page. This is EXACTLY what I want from the WB deal. I really don’t want them doing more DC, Lord of the Rings, and Harry Potter stuff if they go to Xbox. Or even Lego. All these teams can do so much more.
It seems like Asobo might be acquired by Microsoft already, I might be reaching on this one but I cant remember one game that Microsoft published (Microsoft Flight Simulator) and got tweets from the President and CEO of Microsoft giving high praise.
If it was me, I would offer $4B for WB Interactive and then depending on how many licenses im getting and for how long, I would offer at least another few billion.
All the licenses would pay for the entire thing in of itself. The top 4 development studios would be exclusive to Xbox Series X/Series S and PC. While the remaining smaller studios can be multi-platform.
In the long term, I would then expand those 4 studios to two top tier AAA teams. One for the licenses and one for either new IP’s or reboots of IP’s that Microsoft owns.
Here’s another reason why I BY FAR want and prefer Microsoft to acquire WB Interactive over EA and Activision because whether or not you’re a fan of WB/DC, why the hell would you want EA or Activision to acquire WB Interactive? They would kill those studios in a few years. No one should want that.
I hope you’re right but the CEO cares because Xbox and Phil are making the company a ton of money during a pandemic. It’s also a fairly recession proof industry on the software side and make no mistake it’s coming.
Yeah but even though MS bought the publishing rights for Psychonauts 2 they are still releasing the game on PlayStation. This is why im not sure I would want MS to buy WBs, because I dont trust MS to have those games as Xbox and PC only. I am 100% sure they would do the same thing they did with Minecraft and release on all platforms. No way MS spend 4 billion to then reduce the ability to sell the games on a platform with over 100 million potential customers.
I believe the reason why Psychonauts 2 and Wasteland 3 are being released on other platforms is that they were crowdfunded early on, so they are fulfilling their obligations related to that. My guess is that any games released by Double Fine and inXile will be exclusive to Xbox/PC going forward.
Exactly, if a game was already announced or contractually promised to release on other platforms, MS will allow it naturally. Just common sense.
If it’s an unannounced project they can take the liberty to do anything they want.
Anyway, Asobo is the right bet indeed and there’s still WB Games deal open too.
Some japanese studios needed. MS needs lots of studios, of huge variety and breadth. White Owls Inc (Hidetaka Suehiro), Valhalla Game Studios (Tomonobu Itagaki), JP Games Inc (Hajime Tabata)…
MS could also hire Capcom game designer Ryosuke Yoshida, who previously worked on major titles such as Monster Hunter and Devil May Cry 5, has officially departed the company. Let him create a brand new studio from scratch and use his network to recruit top tier talent.
Little devil inside is a crowfunding too but it will be ps5 console timed exlusive. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ldi/little-devil-inside?ref=nav_search&result=project&term=little%20devil%20ins
Sony really don’t care about this stuff though.
I saw that too, but I believe his praise is meant to underline to the business world how Microsoft is able to implement Azure/cloud technology in a way that the competition isn’t yet. I’ve posted above a link to an article from Protocol (by the journalist that interviewed Phil some weeks ago) that stresses exactly that: how Microsoft is far ahead of Amazon and Google on this, since they made similar promises of effectively changing the gaming experience applying and integrating the so-called power of the cloud. It’s not a coincidence Phil made that statement about Google and Amazon some months ago.
With the looking ahead to further aquisitions, I think that too many people are feeling that it will be smaller studios where Microsoft money would unlock the hidden potential of the talent.
Something that came to mind was a interview with Matt Booty In talking about the studios purchased in 2018. I am paraphrasing at best but he spoke about finding and talking to studios that they already had relationships with and that they had worked and survived good and bad times while still being creative. I believe he spoke about Ninja theory, Double fine and Obsidian ( Finally remember the talk, It was the first party talk at the E3 Colosseum link here )
If we were to apply this to the future search for studios, we start by looking for the criteria.
- History working with xbox (marketing deals, exclusive titles, Global publishing, ect )
- People and a culture that aligns towards great games
- What are the ideas and aspirations for the future.
- Ability to work and band together through good times and bad.
Now, while most of this is directly lifted from Matt Booty’s answer in the above youtube link. It does make it easier to sort the potentials out from your own application of these ideas to studios that already exist.
You can’t ran away from AAA discussion, it is AAA games what will push game pass forward
AAA Games went from System seller to Service seller
Exactly, AAA games will bring millions of people to the brand.
I think it would be a good idea to also expand in Europe. Right now Xbox only have one studio in the European Union; Mojang.
Building clusters of studios who can benefit from each other, like the ones in the UK, would be a good idea. Sweden, Poland, France and Germany have some great studios and having studios in these countries would also do wonders for Xbox PR in this huge market.
Asobo, Techland, Bloober would be awesome for gaining a footprint in Europe.
Finally Made My Account.
For studios that I think would benefit both sides…
