Big job losses are a given in the tech sector, while brutal that is now the way of the world . If Xbox shut down any gaming studio’s mind, that will be unforgivable.

So sad to see what’s happening to Xbox whatever the case. The company totally changed for the worst since the ABK deal

Honestly, the effect would be the same. No matter how better or worse a company would get, the outcome will happen the same. Your best bet is if the company originated from a different culture itself, but even then, they would low key do the same.

The company didn’t change, their performance targets may have but this is what these companies are and have always been.

Everyone I talk with doesn’t recognise Xbox anymore and I’ve seen a change in Xbox after the ABK deal

It will depend on whether Xbox close any more studios because I fully expect layoffs in most of the western tech sector, but any more studio closures will just be a step too far

Those people were blinded by a few executives talking to them on social media then, because trust me they have always been like this. They’ll fire 1 or 2k people next month and hire more than that before the year ends. It’s a stupid, vicious cycle that’s increased in number post covid but always existed.

It’s only known because of social media. We’re not aware that closely back then because lack of report. Now we got an “all in one area” to discuss, it’s out in the open.

Would make me question what their plan even is, only keep the high profile studios around? Because in a move like this I can’t see Ninja Theory, Double Fine and other studios of that size surviving.

Xbox closing studios is nothing new and sadly not a change of their modus operandi or culture. Remember when they closed FASA, Ensemble and Lionhead and these are only the bigger names.

Its the end of the fiscal year and Nadella demands the yearly sacrifice.

Sounds like Turn 10 will be getting the hit. Not sure if it’s going to be Halo (FKA 343i) Studios hit, but we’ll see.

No credible journalist has talked about studio closings.

Don’t overthink it, this happens in a pretty constant pattern post Covid. Did you know they’ve hired far more than they’ve hired in the past 4+ years? Their head count has grown from 221k to 228k

It sucks, and if the news hits and they’ve cut talented devs from great teams, rage. Until then it’s best to just wait and see, the only ones truly effected by this are the actual employees facing layoffs. They should have our sympathies, whatever good that can do.

They won’t close it, especially when they have the engine. I do think they need some changes, even though layoff is the worst option.

No reputable journalist has intimated at studio closures, just mass job cuts across Microsoft with Xbox being hit hard.
