I have a feeling that GTA 6 will be the de-facto best racing game on the market once it releases. Do you guys think that other racers will be able to be successful in a post GTA 6 world? Or will we see drastically increased risk profiles and commercial failures due to all the air being sucked out of the room similar to Fortnite’s effect on the Casual Shooter market?
TL;DR: Does Forza Horizon 6 flop because everyone’s perfectly happy getting their racing fix in GTA6?
Unlikely unless they significantly improve the driving - GTA games generally have driving that’s somewhere south of pre-PS1 Driver and only slightly above fucking shit lol.
I’ve a mate who’s obsessed with GTA5 (mostly online) but he’ll never give up Forza Horizon, if you forced him to choose it’s Forza every time - we’re generally pretty obsessed with it and every new one.
Also people like driving Ferraris and Lamborghinis etc - the knock offs just aren’t the same.
Plus it’s knock off Florida so won’t be too much variety in the driving…
Given GTA has historically been worse than other games at driving, shooting, exploring, story telling… In fact everything other than giving players a modern urban playground with a sprinkle of pseudo-shock over it, no.
That’s good to know. I personally think it will be a struggle for a number of different game genres to justify their budgets after GTA6 comes out. It’ll be hard to compete with the network effect of “Myself and everyone I know that games owns GTA6 so why would we all buy another game to do what we can already do in here?”.
The market for racing games does seem like it’s been destroyed already, but not because of GTA. Never thought I’d see the day when Forza Motorsport, Dirt, GRID, and Need for Speed are all good as shelved. I guess there is just not enough of a player base to support as many racing series as there used so be. Outside of the hardcore PC simulators, F1, Forza Horizon, and Gran Turismo are the last men standing.
Why would it? I really don’t see any relations between GTA and racing, they’re 2 different types of games and the driving in GTA doesn’t come close to racing games and it doesn’t have any of the licensed cars anyway or actual well designed races like you would in a normal racing game.
I actually have no idea why this would be a thing.
You would have to pry Forza Motorsport and Forza Horizon from my dead cold hands. I will be buying the next ones. I don’t care about the racing in GTA.
