Yeah, and I said it before, anyone who tries to argue Xbox is gonna have a focus on genre/type is gonna have a real hard time and it will invovle so much goalpost moving
MS really need to sort out their showcase events, SONY does a much better job and do it more regularly too. GT7 and Horzion Zero West 2 is getting a lot of hype and coverage and we get nothing to fight back with from MS
Itâs time now to start to show some Forza, GT 7 is all but done, they canât copy borrow anything from the game now. Itâs time to show a replay on the Xbox YouTube channel and start to get people hyped for the game. Weâve seen more of the new upcoming God Of War, than what we have of Hellblade 2, MS needs to sort that out and start to show the game off being played now
MS is just giving SONY so much free coverage and not hitting back as they should. Its all very well buying more studios than countries, but gamers want games and want to see games being played and also start to show a much better job of the XBox Series 12 Teraflop power
Like I said, I thought LIVE Arcade was ace and I really feel it be nice for MS to have an Arcade section on Gamepass and look to do a deal with SEGA/Tatio for simple straight Arcade ports
The topic of Xbox doing more shows comes up a lot (both here and in media), I think it is basically a guarantee that this happens going forward due to the size of âMicrosoft Gamingâ. Xbox + Bethesda + Activision/Blizzard/King will be dropping multiple games per quarter once the pipeline is going.
As for why It hasnât happened yet? Its the same reason we donât have any games to play for the next 6 months lol.
I wonder if they keep the current structure with the separate presentations. Like for now and potentially we have Blizzcon, Minecon, Xbox E3 (or whatever they will call it), QuakeCon. I want them seriously push Xbox and Microsoft Gaming so that everybody would know that Blizzard = Xbox, Activizion = Xbox.
The main show akin Xbox E3 potentaily can have stuff from ATVI + XGS + Bethesda (as they had E3 right?)
I think Activision especially makes sense to integrate if some stuff is cross platform. Itâll bring more eyes to the Xbox shows where they will see other games and ideally be drawn into the ecosystem.
Content and production pipeline is still not ready. Not ready for individual shows. Not ready for all in push marketing. Not ready to comfortably control and space out release dates throughout the year. The âwaitâ game, itâs the tax for neglecting 1st party for that long. But I believe after this little more wait is the âgreatnessâ part
The wait is a meme at this point, but hopefully it pays off haha
I suspect that even 2023 might become âwait for 2024 E3â lol
Did ATVI have a separate E3 show?
Hope not, haha. I think weâre all so eager for the pipeline to kick in that we can be optimistic about when it really starts. Iâm hoping Q4 2022 on we get at least one big game a quarter.
The wait is also not the 2017/18 wait. Thereâs now much evidence of commitment and care from 2nd half of 2021, that we should at least consider a hint for whatâs coming. That whatâs coming is not some blind trust or wishful thinking, thereâs really something tangible to go by. So maybe the wait is really just for the consistency of all things working together.
It reminds me so much of early PS4, I remember so well that there was a âPS4 has no gamesâ from Xbox fanboys, but everyone knew the great games and consistency were cooking and coming
But imagine Microsoft pushing Sonyâs level of marketing, with commercials and banners for Game Pass and games everywhere, and tens of games coming, a lot of conferences, Game Pass shows, Godd Howardâs blessings in the temples and so on
I think that will start by the end of this year in 2022. They are going to market the shit out of Starfield.
Sony didnât have all that consistently until their 1st party and content was also consistent and coherently working together. When did they start SoP for individual games, hell even general SoP?
So thatâs why I think some of you are getting ahead of yourself complaining about shows and marketing. Iâll say it again, Iâll join in with you in complaining if they reach to the optimal and consistent point with the 1st party content but not the marketing & shows.
What frustrates me the most is how Sony is 10x smaller than MS but does marketing so much better. At least here in europe. Football (soccer) is THE biggest individual sport and Champions League THE biggest yearly event and every match you see Sony (PlayStation) branding all over the place. Kids who love the sport see PS version of Fifa plastered everywhere and that leads to a big mindshare and sales. Disney is another company MUCH smaller to MS and they market their products heavily. And the results speak for themselves.
The amount of casuals here who donât even know what gamepass is saddens me. Thatâs MSâ problem. They have an amazing service that many donât even know about. I sincerely hope theyâre holding back on marketing till their 1P content is dropping nonstop. Otherwise â3B gamersâ goal is just a fantasy. And yes I know 3B isnât literal. Itâs just trying to appeal to the entire market (they can and want to reach maybe 1/10th of that long long longterm). A strong marketing presence is gonna be crucial for that goal. And not just in the US.
In PS3 era I was on Xbox 360 so I donât remember the state of PS3 at that time. And I donât remember when State of Plays started, but PS4 era started with Sony doing a successful launch with the next gen looking games (like Order 1886) and it basically never stopped.
All things working together consistly didnât start for Sony untill like 2015, some argue 2016. It fairly lines up to when things are expected to start working together for Xbox
I definitely think Microsoft needs to do more to market Game Pass. I have to imagine that most of its growth has been due to word of mouth. Crazy folks like us talking about it and pushing it in friends non stop.
I donât think folks that donât have one of us around have any idea that Game Pass is a thing.
Well, thatâs the difference between media and tech giants. (though Apple is the exception there). Apple is literally what Sony and Microsoft could be together. And Apple + Sony is the combo that can obliterate every competition.
Donât think you can look at the size of the company, need to look at the size of the particular divisions. Xbox doesnât have access to all of Microsoftâs resources. Today, Sonyâs gaming business is significantly larger than Microsoftâs and is also more important to the companies underlying success than Microsoftâs. Just consider that it took two major publisher acquisitions to get the businesses to a similar size.
That said, Microsoft is obviously all in on gaming now. We see that with their $70 billion investment.
