What's the future of the AOE series?

Hi mates, first of all, i’d like to wish my best wishes to all of you.

I really like the last X-pack for Aoe4 and i think that Forgotten Empires (developers behind Aoe2de ) made a really great work with campaign: for me it’s much better than the previous ones (i found the original 4 campaigns without soul).

i’d like to ask you which are your predictions about the future of this franchise:

  1. Since the massive lay-offs inside Relic Entertainment do you think they will be the main developer of the next AOE or could we see new developers?

  2. there will be a a new AOE? Which epocs Will be covered in your opinion? My guess are the ancient times;

  3. Do you think Blizzard could be a part of the AOE development in some way?

  4. Do you think will ever see a day-one launch for PC and console in the upcoming future?;

  5. are there any clues about a new AOE game under development?

Age of Mythology Retold is next. I imagine we’ll get Age 5 eventually. Don’t think Blizzard need to be involved.

It will return with a new game. It’s proven that the crowd is there and willing to spend its expansion and others. I believe Age of Mythology Retold is their big focus now.

Get World’s Edge, Relic and 343 to make Halo Wars 3.

Only half kidding lol

I’m sure AoE5 will happen somewhere down the line but it will be a long way off

They will be releasing AoM Remastered this year and be doing a load of support for 4

They should make an approach to buy Relic Entertainment and/or Creative Assembly and roll them in with Worlds Edge to work on the RTS strategy genre for Xbox.

Age of Empires. Age of Mythology. Rise of Nations. Halo Wars.

How about an AoE game set in the world of Elder Scrolls?

They could also work alongside Blizzard to help produce Warcraft and Starcraft.

Age of Empires 4 should have another few DLC in it yet.

Agree. I really don’t understand why MS is not trying to acquire Relic and CA. These studios have many troubles and Lay-offs.

They could be a good investiment for Microsoft gaming due all the RTS franchises under the Xbox umbrella.

AOE, AOM, Rise of National, Halo wars, Warcraft, StarCraft, Empire Earth.

Also console players ask for these games so having more studios on different RTS at the same time could be the right choice for Gamepass.

I highly doubt an Age of Empires 5 game is being worked on or even being planned.

Why do you think so? If i remember well, on the last career positions (Relic Entertainment, year 2022) there was one related to "unannounced Age of Empires title).

Even if Microsoft tried, there is absolutely zero chance that Sega would sell those studios. Their strategy games are a major, major pillar for them.

What they should have done is hired the 100 people who got laid off at Relic and set up a full development team at World’s Edge.

Pretty sure Oxide (Ara) would be the ones acquired for AOE if they were interested.

Because I expect Microsoft to get the most out of AoE4 first. I wonder if there is actually interest in an AoE5 at this point.

I’m sure there are other projects that could garner much more hype and be an interesting addition to the portfolio for them.

Franchise is fine, and honestly in a far better place than I thought I’d be. 4 is very popular.

yeah they are going to milk it for all its worth like they are still making content for AOE 2 even though the original was released a long time ago and then it got a definitive version that spread to other AOE titles so yeah it’s going to be a while especially now that they got to do AOM now

I still want an Aliens isolation sequel from CA, but MS can buy them and allow them to do that then move them to RTS.
