Should finish up Tears of the Kingdom today.
Now days when I turn on my Xbox, between game pass and stuff I own, I just get choice paralysis and end up just not playing anything.

I should be playing backlog games, instead I bought Weird West DE for a super nice price, lol.
Life of a gamer.
Thats on my very long backlog list.
Nice!!! Dragon Age: The Veilguard was a 9.5/10 for me and my 2024 game of the year. With that said, outside of about six hours with DA Origins back in the day on PS3, I never played any of them until The Veilguard so while I can completely understand those who love the previous games not being all that thrilled with The Veilguard, this aspect doesn’t apply to me and never will so in this regard, all I can say is that I loved The Veilguard.
My top 5 this generation thus far -
I’m a huge Origins fan, but I try to take each game for what it is rather than what it isn’t. So far Veilguard is a great, rather linear, ARPG with fun combat. Not a fan of the Marvel-esque banter or the somewhat YA dialogues at times, but overall the story is good and I like most companions.
Awesome!!! The only gripe I had was some of the writing that revolves around Taash. It’s just so cringy and forced but thankfully, it’s maybe 30 minutes worth if that out of the 98 or so hours I put into the game so in the end, it was basically a minor issue.
I’m playing:
MindsEye Death Stranding 2 Avowed
Kinda soft swapping between those 3.
At times such as these I think its important to remind myself that its not “the videogame industry” that I love but simply playing games. In that spirit here’s what I’m enjoying at the moment:
Final Fantasy 16 – About 10ish hours in and although it’s been a slow start I’m getting hooked into the storyline. Combat isn’t quite to my tastes and battles last a bit too long but then again I’m an easy mode guy. I hope SE take inspiration from Expedition33 and head back to their turn-based roots for their next mainline game.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake – picked this up in the steam sale assuming it wouldn’t run on integrated graphics on my laptop but that I could refund or keep to play on Xbox Rog Ally X when it releases (assuming I can justify the purchase to the wife). Turns out it runs ok on my laptop – its 1080p low settings and 30fps but those things don’t bother me. So far loving the game. Combat is better than FF16 and gives enough nod to the turn based goodness of the original to scratch that nostalgia itch. Admittedly I could have waited for the launch on Xbox later this year (I mean I’ve waited til now) but the price on steam too good to pass up (assuming it will launch around £50 on Xbox later this year). Trying not to feel too guilty that it means 7R will have one less sale at launch on Xbox (but hey I did buy the alleged massive xbox flop that is FF16)
It Takes Two – was round at a mates house on Sunday for a bit of couch co-op. He’s a Playstation guy and we’d normally been playing through the Gears games together at mine so this was a definite change of mood/pace. After some good natured fake barfing by myself at having to use a controller whose thumbsticks are in the wrong place we played about 3 or 4 hours and it’s a great wee game. Look forward to playing more soon.
I’m excited about what’s to come later this year, and about what I’ve got in my backlog to catch up on. Especially once the Ally launches – with free prime games, gamepass, play anywhere, and the relative cheapness of steam games my 2026 gaming looks stacked.
Dead Island 2 via Gamepass.
I tried it last year, didn’t enjoy it much but I’m having a much better time this year. Games are like that sometimes, i.e. they can finally click later for various reasons.
Still (re)playing Final Fantasy XVI so I can get to the two expansions. Just looking to complete the base game and the two expansions before RoboCop: Rogue City - Unfinished Business standalone releases in three weeks.
Currently I’m playing crime scene cleaner. Didn’t expect much but the game has me sucked in. Maybe it’s my ocd. Just waiting patiently for Mafia: The Old Country.
I’m on a real Star Wars bender lately. Recently finished Jedi Survivor and started with a replay of Kotor and Jedi Outcast. Also still playing 40k Rogue Trader and Persona 5 Royal. Quick Resume is truly goated.
Just finished Lost in Random: The Eternal Die and I have to say it’s my favorite rogue like and it’s the only one I have been interested enough in the game play and story to try to finish. It’s and easy 8/10 for me.
Finished South of Midnight. I love the world-building of Compulsion.
The combat didn’t work for me, so I’m glad they put in an option to skip it. Minus a few platforming complaints here and there that made a few things tricky, I greatly enjoyed my time with it.
I got Gamepass about a week ago, and I finally got around to playing Ninja Gaiden II Black. Long story short, it’s good. Already better than Sigma 2. Not sure if better than the original 2008 NG2 by Itagaki.
I also like Dredge, Blue Prince and Nine Sols a lot. I’ll pick those up with NG2B later.
Dropped Carrion, Genshin Impact and Zenless Zone Zero. Still Wakes the Deep seems alright but it’s not for me. Little Kitty, Big City is good too but I probably won’t be playing it much longer.
Finished Pandemonium in DOOM: TDA yesterday and I have 10 days until the Robo expansion so I decided to finish Space Marine 1 and then replay the Wolfenstein 2 campaign and play for the first time the DLC chapters which I got in a sale recently. After Robocop I will probably play Ninja Gaiden Ragebound which is at the end of the month.
Ragebound looks sweet, have you played Blasphemous? I started the first one but haven’t beaten it
No I haven’t played Blasphemous but Ragebound looks really good indeed, hopefully it turns out great. I am also very excited about the new Shinobi game from Lizardcube which is coming at the end of August (around Gears Reloaded and Helldivers 2), a lot of cool stuff this summer!
You’d probably like Blasphemous based on your post. It’s got a parry mechanic. Nine Sols is also very good if you haven’t played that one yet. I am also looking forward to Shinobi. I think they made Streets of Rage 4 which was great
Any particular reason why you dropped Genshin Impact and Zenless Zone Zero?
