Discover Weekly was nice for me in the past weeks, many more old school hip hop songs I completely forgot or didn’t even know yet.

I recently got a friend listening to The Cure albums between 2000 - 2008 :black_heart: He was under the impression they had retired during the 90’s

And they released some really good stuff too! The Cure managed to sound fresh and interesting throughout the years, Smith is a genius. Also I saw them live back at 2002 here in Athens and it was one of the best live performances that I’ve ever seen.

OK guys I’ll go straight to the point…The Sound was a fuckin’ amazing band and deserved so much more success and recognition in the 80’s.

Around the early- mid 80’s in what I guess was the second wave of post-punk there were some great bands that went unnoticed by the mainstream. The Chameleons, The Comsat Angels, The Associates and Lowlife and of course The Sound are the first bands that come to mind, all wrote some amazing pieces of music that could’ve easily being radio hits but for some reason they never hit the mainstream…I guess new wave drowned everything else in that period.

And even though I love all the bands above with all my heart I think The Sound deserve a bit more credit because they remained consistently high quality during their whole career/discography without resorting to selling out or chasing trends. Sure their sound/style changed through the years but they kept their identity while also writing some fuckin’ great songs. Adrian’s immediately recognizable beautiful voice, melancholic guitar playing style and lyrics, the haunting synths and the very important to their sound groovy in a post punk-ish way rhythm section was always there for the whole slate of 5 albums and 1 EP.

Well here I am in 2024 hyping up a niche/cult post punk band from the 80’s in a mostly videogame related forum…I think that in this day and age of our holy internet it’s a good opportunity to spread the word about stuff (in general not only music) that was good and didn’t get the recognition they deserved back when they were released so if more people find about this band and enjoy their music I’ll be more than happy I guess.

Anyway enough talk (lol) here are some tracks that I love from this band and are from their lesser known later albums:

@Fiendflag You reminded me of an album I found a couple years ago. Both the album and band are called Rumskib, and it has a really strong 80s/90s influence for something that released in the mid to late 2000s. But it’s the only thing they released until some point last year where they released their unreleased songs in an album. I listened to a few but didn’t like it as much.

It’s shoegaze so it sounds a bit more… “messy” than what you posted, but they do kinda remind me of The Cocteau Twins. I actually wanted to post this band here at some point but I just forgot!

I know it’s been awhile but I also hope you all have been doing well! At some point in this thread I said I would post some vaporwave… It’s still gonna happen! Just let me figure out what I wanna post first! :weary:

Happy to see that you are back Hearthian! I’ll definitely check out this band because I love The Cocteau Twins and like shoegaze in general, curious about those vaporwave tracks too.

Also here is another great track from The Sound. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Sounds so ahead of it’s time…and Adrian’s voice…this band man.
