People just want to see ads in their faces, they don’t care how effective the ads are at actually getting people to buy a product.
Video game enthusiasts are a weird group of people. Most people hate ads but some gamers really want to see ads of their favorite company nonstop so maybe someone they don’t know is influenced to buy a console so they can get excited about that company making more money.
It’s definitely working considering the word of mouth and the amount of consoles the competitors are selling though.
When you see an ad, even for a third party game with the logo of your console at the end, it makes people link that game to your ecosystem even though it’ll be available everywhere. Worked in the past for stuff like Destiny or Star Wars Battlefront for Sony on PS4, and now they are doing it with the right games like Hogwart’s Legacy for example as we all know how huge the Harry Potter brand is and how much word of mouth that’ll create. I’m not into ads myself, doesn’t affect me at all, but it definitely works for the masses.
I better not hear any more lamenting about Sony moneyhats/content exclusive deals if Xbox trying to do more to make the brand more known is a bad idea and they should stick with GP word of mouth. Because this is one reason it’s very easy for Sony to do these things.
They aren’t doing (major) money hats because it’s bad for keeping a games consistent for a subscription service. I have no idea why people don’t understand that. And Sony’s money hats are definitely slowing down.
Oh, I’m not saying MS should do those too, I don’t want them to as it is a direct clash with GP. I’m just saying that if you think the idea of MS doing more to put the Xbox brand in people’s minds is dumb, don’t lament when Sony is easily able to do such deals because they’re still perceived as the default/only console.
For me personally, there’s not been any moneyhats I’ve cared about, and yes, maybe after the bombing of Forspoken Sony will take a second guess about these.
What I’m saying is that there’s more reasons to care about how Xbox is perceived by the public than “wanting strangers to put more money in MS’s vault”
I don’t think Microsoft will win US market this gen. I think this gen is all about changing the Xbox brand image. The key for this gen is to get people to try xbox ecosystem and experience gamepass that will have 23+ studios providing games for it. Also they need to strengthen their image around the globe.
You will, after ABK becomes there. Hehehe…
The start of the gen was super optimistic for brand pretty much internet wide but that’s done nothing but fall and fall and fall. I’ve seen tons of games media people who were high on Xbox completely fall off. The brand has tons of promise but they didn’t have near enough ready at the start to drag people over. Which can be seen with how much market share Sony is still gaining. They are definitely doing better than last gen, but so far, they aren’t doing close to as well as I’m sure they hoped. And all the delays and the ABK deal being so rough has a ton to do with it.
I’m not really sure what people were expecting? Playstation came into the generation on the back of a great PS4 that had quite a few quality first party games. Xbox is still to show the benefits of the studios purchased. It’s going to take a few years of steady, reliable games being produced that are of a standard that gamers expect for us to see the true benefit to the brand. There’s a decent amount of gamers that are single console owners and despite Microsoft offering a great value ecosystem they still need to show that they can produce the games at a steady cadence at the right quality
Yeah, it was the worst time to have a bad gen, digital libraries make it so much harder to get people to switch consoles, enough with a bigger 1st party, Microsoft still won’t have enough to combat against Sony’s 1st party and big 3rd party exclusives + overly aggressive marketing deals like Hogwarts legacy. It always keeps the PS5 relevant even when their 1st party is not doing any heavy lifting. Every big streamer has to have a PS5 on standby just to play their exclusives, Sony is very clever here. It gives the impression that all these big creators have the PS5 because it is a necessity, it’s a reason why they will never release AAA single player games day one on PC, console exclusivity serves a dual purpose here.
Realistically, it would take almost a doubling of exclusive, high-quality games to switch over to Xbox, that’s why the Series S is important for Microsoft, they knew this. So, if a PS or Nintendo player finds even a couple exclusives enticing, the series S becomes an easier entry point.
Microsoft has all this data and more, they know that the console space is limited in user base and revenue and they know how difficult it is to topple Sony. That’s why they are setting foundations for the future battlegrounds, i.e. mobile and cloud (reason to buy ABK), through which they can become revenue leaders. Allowing them to finally invest more and more to overcome Sony’s marketing /mindshare stronghold.
I certainly didn’t expect Xbox to lose ground in its bigger market. Although I don’t think they or anyone expected 2022 to be some a massive bust.
They lost ground because they outsold Sony from late 2021 to mid 2022 and Sony regained a lot of that in the Fall.
Shock!
https://twitter.com/1978iamdesign/status/1619155881836568579 Just look at this list to understand how Square Enix has begun to focus more on quantity than quality. And if there’s no quality, the games don’t sell. And those few quality games they release are relegated as timed exclusives that will help the publisher, but only in the short term.
Jack’s game and Star Ocean are decent. And the HD2D games on Switch are awesome… But I would also guess that a multi million dollar publisher cant just rely on small-tier games like those.
This image would perhaps be better if it actually showed all of Square Enix’s titles for a full comparison instead of cutting out the titles that scored higher than these. It definitely shows the inconsistency of SE however.
The one that carried them are remakes/remaster and pixelated games.
When Starfield release date is announce at the Developer Direct and you will see crazy Pre-Order numbers.
This game has the mega potential to push Xbox consoles sales on the level of Elder Scrolls and Fallout.
I’m expecting it to top Steam charts for the foreseeable future. I’m expecting 20 plus million sales on console alone and that with Game Pass, not even counting PC sales.
MS need to hit on the marketing, go all out. A game like this has the potentional to change the gaming landscape. It still very early in this Gen, Starfield will make or break MS chance of catching up to Sony and or not falling behind to far.
We don’t know Xbox console sales? but it expected to be 20 plus million while Sony is at over 32 million. Xbox has to keep it closed, don’t let it get to far apart.
I think it’ll be great but change the gaming landscape? Nothing really ground breaking about it. It’s Skyrim in space, which will be great… 20mill is extremely optimistic when Skyrim that came out on everything only had 30mill on everything.
