Video Game Market Analysis Thread

Shit lol, as much as we make fun of the remaster, gotta give props to cryin Ryan.

That’s got to be absolutely embarrassing and demoralizing for MS when you get outsold by a more expensive console despite the huge price cut and fire sales in your home country where it is supposedly their strongest market. And they still landed in a distant 3rd place even when Sony was severely impacted by supply issues. This is why they don’t disclose any numbers.

PS5 Slim + Spidey 2 will be a 2 punch combo that will hurt hard

Jim Ryan is the one who bought all the copies.

Hopefully Bethesda can capitalize on that with the new Fallout show that’s coming out.

Sony hasn’t been impacted by supply issues for a while

It’s why they sold so much at the end of this year but yes, it’s bad look for Xbox and they need to get some games out badly

So what were the boxed physical sales before? Yes, the percentage increase looks nice, but how low were sales beforehand? Statistics can be meaningless without context.

ie: Sales going from 100 to 338, and going from 100 to 422 is the same percentage increase as stated – 238% increase and 322% increase.

It’s a marathon not a sprint. Xbox will do fantastic this year.

There’s enough room for PS5 and Xbox to sell great this year.

Anyone that thought Xbox would somehow make a big dent in PS market share just because XSX gen had a relatively good launch was deluding themselves and isn’t being realistic.

They at least need to do as good as Sony in their home turf though, or else it’s not a really good look to be honest.

What does hometurf even mean ?

This isn’t the 90’s or 2000’s lol. USA is just as much as a home turf for PlayStation as it is for Xbox.

There’s no shame in that.

Not surprised about those LOU numbers, I remember when Witcher Netflix came out and Witcher 3 sold better than it did in its first year after that, well done live action shows can have a positive impact, not that I think the Witcher Netflix is good now

Yeah it’s clear most people want the X, if you go back to March 2022 Xbox had their biggest March ever if I recall correctly and it was thanks to Series X stock, it hasn’t been great ever since but Microsoft keeps pushing the S the hardest for some reason, when I go to a store in gaming all I see is Series S ads everywhere or whenever I see an Xbox ad, I understand Microsoft would love for the digital only device to be their best selling but the consumer doesn’t want that one at the moment, at this point in time the more expensive consoles are selling the best and are clearly the most desired by the consumer, Series S was always in my mind going to be a bigger deal once all big franchises stopped supporting last gen and the more casual gamers are looking for good holiday deals to play Fifa and COD, we’re not at that point yet.

Yeah, although Sony has been prioritizing the US market more than others this gen probably because they know a bunch of countries in Europe will be theirs by default once they start sending a lot of stock there but this all seems like a clear issue of lack of Series X stock, There’s no way Xbox should be this far behind in the US, they gotta do something quick before it gets to a point of no return but we’re probably there already and while I think their exclusives will help (assuming they have Series X stock by then) I think they would need something like ES6 to get closer to PS5 in the US and that is many years away.

But PS5 shows this isn’t really the case and Series X had a huge month in March of last year due to available stock… that’s the main thing that’s been killing Xbox this gen, most people want the X and not the S.

Said it above but you could replace the entire series s stock with x and I don’t think it would have changed THAT much

If Starfield had launched last year those Series S’s would have been flying off the shelves, it needs big games

NA is like their only big market and is the reason why the 360 sold so well that gen. Not having a huge market in the US automatically means they won’t be making gains this gen, on the contrary.

So yes there is shame in having your main competitor, who already outsold you last gen, now selling even more than before and gaining marketshare in your strongest market.

Those are bad numbers, not even the XBO had such a low holiday period. I don’t understand why they are struggling so much with X stock? You can’t find that thing anywhere while the S is just sitting there without much demand seemingly.

The problem is not only Series X’s stock, but the lack of exclusives games too. If we watch Xbox One in the same amount of time, 2015 had Tomb Raider, Forza Motorsport 6, and Halo 5 in the holiday period. As good as it is, it won’t be a game like Pentiment that will make you want to buy an Xbox.

Do you all read the posts above before replying or do you just love repeating what other posters have said?

I believe that was the plan in the first place. Just a little delay and ta-da.

Is Xbox still sending XSX for Xcloud? Because if it’s not growing too quickly, they need to prioritize sending them to stores to help with their supply shortages. Once an uptick on cloud happens than they should be alternating between the 2.

Someone at MS (or 343) made a big mistake by not pursuing partnership with Saber Interactive, Certain Affinity and Blur Studio to develop the Halo 3 remake. Would have been perfect for the 15th anniversary, especially since 2022 was basically terrible/empty in terms of first-party. Bad planning.

Who is to say it wouldn’t have gotten delayed to 2023 like everything else. Or that Saber had a team available to do this work?

I would’ve loved that :frowning: They can still do it to build some goodwill, maybe even a remake of the first game, reimagine the first game with more modern gameplay and level design, make each missions more open and vertical, a remake of The Silent Cartographer would be amazing.
