Sony, despite “trying” to kill Xbox this gen, don’t really want Xbox to leave the console space anyway. They are already being scrutinized in the UK for unfair business practices. If they are the only ones left( strictly speaking on the “high performance console market”, that the regulators defined) , they are basically in the spotlight for antitrust lawsuits and enforcements.
Regulators would want Xbox to stay to prevent Sony from having too much power over the gaming industry as there are no other alternative( Nintendo is considered its own market). So for this reason, I don’t think Xbox leaving the console space would lead to a healthy industry, no matter what fanboys or fanboy analyst/media says.
He had plenty of chances to get an s. Im sorry. If he wanted an X i agree as thats hard to find but anyone annoyed about missing out on a deal for series s needs to be fucking dissapoinyed with themselves. Its been readily available and on sale for months.
I honestly think this is why Jim Ryan is retiring. There were so many theatrics and doomsaying going on (honestly from every direction) that it drew way too much attention to the current state of the market. As a result it may have some negative affects on PlayStation in the near-ish future.
I kinda wonder what their plan right now is. It seemed for a while that they were all in with cloud, but seemingly Sony have surpassed them in that. They care a lot about having multiple options to play their games, console, PC, via tv and such, but that is streaming and it isn’t ideal and far from the point where it can replace the home console.
They have made some big moves with acquisitions and turning things around. They made a mistake to “sacrifice” XSX consoles for steaming, but why can’t they produce more of them now? I just wonder what their plans are.
Possible. I do not think Sony japan HQ was happy to see the US Senate send a letter to the Japan gvt about possible “market abnormal anti-competitive behaviors in Japan”.
To some degree, though a lot of the stuff coming out of the US was difficult to separate the genuine concern from political posturing and thinly veiled nationalism/racism.
I recall not so long ago seeing tweets and reports how much improved Sony’s streaming got with 4K and more. And some people said MS was behind because of the ABK case going on.
If it was just Europe I wouldn’t worry since the XBox never did well in Europe even with the 360 and here in Ireland, you can forget about Xbox ever doing well.
What is far more troubling is seeing Hardware numbers down for the USA and Great Britain compared to even the Xbox One three years into their life cycles. It comes across like Microsoft doesn’t care or is worried. I don’t see any big PR push to sell the Series consoles anywhere in the world
Studios and IP aren’t an issue at all now. PR & marketing is what XBox got to solve
I wonder if XBox will buy SONY PR division since XBox’s answer to anything is to buy it.
In Ireland, we’re seeing PS5 and COD TV advert spots but nothing from X Box. A trillion-dollar company that seems it can’t afford to advertise its consoles on TV.
Its only troubling if you’re expressly looking for trouble and ignoring the larger picture.
As explained earlier, they were holding back to appear weak in order to get the largest gaming acquisition moved through to completion. That much is clear to see given shortly after ABK is acquired, they have console hardware available everywhere at a steep discount and have a metric ton of advertising everywhere too.

Starting from the top, we have Konami’s new Momotaro and Mario RPG. For Momotaro, the last game was an evergreen for a few years and it ended up outselling (or at least coming close to) the Silent Hill series… (Just for those out of the loop, it’s a board game/party game) Definitely one of Konami’s golden gooses now, I wonder how far this new entry goes?
Mario RPG coming close to what Mario Wonder did week 1 is pretty impressive. This release will be a big success no doubt, and I wonder how that influences if Nintendo decides to do a brand new Mario RPG?
Hogwarts Legacy’s Switch release seems like a pretty good launch for a late port and especially since it’s pushing the hardware intensely to the point where it’s a different experience than on PS.
Next is P5 Tactica… It’s one of the lower performing P5 spin-offs. I’m not really seeing a lot of people talk about this game tbh, I haven’t gotten to it yet but I’m sure it’s fine, but Sega/Atlus have mainly been focused on pushing P3R. Also kind of not good for Atlus is that P5T is doing better on Switch, when Atlus is trying to still make their “home platform” PS in Japan (their upcoming major games are not announced for Nintendo). For their own sake I hope P3R and Metaphor will be announced for Switch 2 because that’s leaving a lot of domestic sales on the table otherwise (well not to mention it’d probably be the strongest platform for them globally too lol), these aren’t “FFXVI-likes”, they’re clearly still very much trying to appeal to the domestic audience.
Now for hardware sales, Switch took its crown right back lol, though only edged out against PS5. Xbox seems like it’s doing better than usual. I noticed just how much Series X is winning out against Series S too. The split is:
So the holding back should cease now and probably a year from now or maybe sooner things will look a lot better? It does make sense what you said. I hope this will go for Europe too. I want them to be successful here.
I have never really checked it, but before ABK even came into the picture, were things a lot better for Xbox in Europe, especially? Because if they truly intentionally did this to appear weak, small just to get ABK through, damn. I guess a company like MS can easily afford that, but that’s still kind of a gamble.
We do have to take into account the chip shortages that took quite a while too. But if they held back on producing consoles on purpose for ABK to succeed, then things should pick up sooner than later. Perhaps I’m reading too much into it.
I get that Xbox wouldn’t look to spend big on PR while trying to get the ABK deal over the line. I don’t understand why you would look to stop or limit the supply of consoles given that PS5 had a big userbase advantage that wouldn’t really factor in the ABK deal where SONY might Hardware sales are even or XBox is selling more hardware each month.
Also, I get the issues over chips but that was sector-wide and surely should have been fixed and addressed months ago I too hope things really ramp up and pick up for Xbox console sales the PC side seems more than fine.
In Ireland XBox is dead and I think for most of the EU too but really hope that console hardware sales pick up in Great Britain and the USA they’ve been such good markets to the XBox brand and where XBox does better.
The XBox hardware and software staff really deserve to see better rewards for their hardware and software and sheer hardware they’ve put into the console and studios. Hopefully Black Friday deals will be the launch pad for a great Christmas for all of us XBox fans
