Video Game Market Analysis Thread

several reasons but this is the major one of them .

Substantially easier to manufacture the SOCs and quantities produced probably far outnumber the SeriesX. That and the final console is so damn cute.

Would be curious to see a parallel world where supply constraints never existed in 2020 and 2021. I wonder what their strategy would be at that point.

I wonder how many hypocritical interviews from japanese publishers/devs will see this gen about how it is ‘impossible’ to make a Xbox port. I reckon much much less. XD

Why wouldn’t it be much cheaper? Smaller APU (so more chips per wafer), less RAM, smaller SSD, no Disc Drive, likely cheaper cooling solution, etc.

Isnt this reusing a lot of the xbox one s casings too?

I think the cheaper console helps in places like Japan where the Xbox would be a 2nd or 3rd console for people. Cost factor is really important in some countries where gaming is super expensive and people just want to play the latest games. It’s a smart play considering how the chip market is now. We aren’t going to get those massive price drops like previous generations.

Indeed. We never really got a price drop for last gen, the PS4, 4Pro, OneS, and OneX hasn’t really dropped in retail price like the PS3/X360 did. That’s even before the pandemic scarcity hit.

Those days are over now, especially with demand for chips being as high as they are now. At best I feel we will get a $50 price drop.

For Japan they literally need to color it as Japanese flag (paint black circle into a red one). Would sell a lot :joy:

PS continues to take smaller markets seriously. Random stuff:

Japan numbers from last week. Benji thinks it’s from lack of stock sent from Sony and Microsoft.

IDK how that went with other localisations, but Halo Infinite italian dub is bad, even subtitles are often out of sync and lip-sync, while not as bad as Halo 4, maaan…it almost seems they went for cheap, several much smaller games have way better adaptations.

Here, the entire game is in German if your console is set to Swedish. They don’t give af.

There are no subs for your language?

I don’t know, I am English-only in most things.

But since it defaults to German for people with the console set to Swedish, I would guess no

It’s such a weird thing, it’s like American consoles had Portuguese or something because iTs cLOseisH to bRaziL. smh

Well, Brazil is a huge country, but I feel you concerning EU support. Halo anyway is the Xbox game with more language support, ~15 language dubs and subs is far more than the global average in gaming.

It’s nice that there is support for those who needs it, but it’s a bit telling that they can’t read their markets. English is our second language, it’s taught from pre-school and everyone uses it. Nothing except childrens cartoons is dubbed etc.

But, no, GeRmAn iS clOse, rIghT? Freakin Americans.

I changed the title slightly to “Video Game Market Analysis Thread”, think this could be a good place to talk all things sales wise including MAU’s and Subscription numbers. If you have a better title please let me know.
