Yeah, that’s why I’d love to see numbers for how the 360 was doing at this point in its life. I tried poking around VG Charts, but I’m currently on mobile and it’s a less than pleasant experience. I’ll try to remember to give it a look this afternoon when I’m on desktop.
Does Japan like Bethesda games? Bethesda exclusives should be a big deal for every country.

4 days old but I didn’t see anyone (literally) talking about this analysis from Newzoo
Newzoo released a new report focusing on game companies’ revenue and growth in the last 12 months. This report shows that the top ten game companies generated $126 billion in revenue. It also shows how mergers and acquisitions will change the industry: If the Microsoft-Activision acquisition had happened a year earlier, the company would have edged out Sony and Apple.
Newzoo also noted that Microsoft was showing decent growth as well, especially compared with its competitors: 9.6% vs Nintendo’s 1.9% and Sony’s negative numbers. It attributes this to the success of the Game Pass service, which recently passed the 25 million-subscriber mark. Also, it pointed out that Nintendo and Sony are seeing a bit of a bust following the pandemic boom of 2020.
It ain’t beating 360. 360 had tons of exclusive JRPG’s in those first few years that actually sold reasonably well. 360 fell off hard after 3 years but those first 3 years it was doing crazy numbers by xbox standards. I expect SEries will outsell the original though. But need more Japanese games and big ones.
The 360 had a bit of a unique situation in Japan. “Arrogant” Sony put out a super expensive console and was pushing the Bluray next-gen narrative really hard. From my understanding they weren’t allowing visual novels, indie games, shoot em ups, or basically any games that didn’t showcase the PS3’s power onto the console. They only changed their stance after the poor sales of the PS3. The 360 was able to take advantage of this early on, but RROD and Sony changing their tune really put a damper on any momentum MS had.
Honestly, all it would really take for the Series to catch the 360 is one game that becomes a hit. A tall order to get a “Pokemon” but not impossible.
Also note that the Japan sales tracking we have access to is incomplete. They don’t track Amazon.JP and apparently the Xbox is doing well there.
Uuu Fff man…even if they knock it off the park this gen. I doubt we will ever reach that point.
I have them all in a spreadsheet from the media create/Famitsu data, will try to remember to post an updated lifetime Japan sales chart for all Xbox systems here after the numbers come out this week.
I also occasionally post charts over in the other era “Xbox in Asia/Japan” thread, if you’re interested.
This made me curious, and the Series S is currently sitting in 27th place on the videogame bestselling list on Amazon.co.jp. And that’s with it not even being in stock currently. That must be a recent development, as Amazon tend to update their bestseller lists quite frequently.
I believe Skyrim was very popular there and I wouldn’t be surprised in Starfield is very popular over there too
Not ideal but i guess it at least shows interest

Hahaha. Amazing. Series is king
Obviously it’s all supply related but hilarious nonetheless
That S to X ratio is wild though, X supply over there is horrendous some weeks
The fact it’s doing better than One, it’s already a sign of growth. Yes, it’s not huge compare to Switch, but progress takes time.
I am wondering if Xbox Series Puck will be included in the sales in the future. Should sell a decent amount too even for people who bought Xbox already.
Better than one isnt a a metric of success. It has to do significantly vetter which it is thankfully.
I wish Power Pro Baseball would come back to the US. It’s been about 15 years.
Except it is, it means that Microsoft is doing right things.
