Dead or Alive 3 was my gateway to 3D fighter or at least time where I became invested. I did play Tekken series but I was really young so I wasn’t grasping the mechanic and didn’t go hardcore. DOA was when I begin to take it more serious and then 4th happened. I was really into it.
Ninja Gaiden for Xbox was my introduction to the series and it was also my first awareness of the man behind it. He brought me into those genres/series, and I’m grateful for it. His last outings may not be as stellar as his most known work, but at least he got to continue to do his passion before he is sent to Heaven.
Rest in Peace. Thank you for the memories.
Right before the release of Ninja Gaiden 4 is really sad. I hope he has seen enough of the game and be satisfied. His legacy will live on, that’s for sure.
I hope Xbox makes an update to the credit to honor him.
It’s hard to think of the original Xbox and not think of Itagaki. He was also a pioneer in jiggle physics and he will be missed.
Yeah, he introduced me to that too.
You’ll know his game is going to be badass action when you see him holding the sword like that…
Rest in peace Chad
RIP
what a legendary dev he was
I will play some Ninja Gaiden Black today on the highest difficulty to honor his legacy.
RIP
Nothing can complete with Ninja Gaiden 2
RIP to the GOAT. Owned all the DOA mainline games going back to the original. While I thought the first entry was mearly ok, the series would go onto dethrone Tekken for me as my favorite 3D fighter. NG and NG Black are undesputed classics. I always though ITagaki was treated a bit unfairly by the media and gaming at large given the classics he produced in my eyes he was always up there with the likes of Kamiya and Harada. One bomb and all of a sudden he was a “joke”. I had always hoped he’d someday make a comeback , maybe Xbox working with him again. Sadly will never be.
RIP - to one of the OG Xbox legends.
DoA2 on Dreamcast is still the GOAT to me. He will always be remembered as one of the greatest game directors out there. His legacy will definitely live on, starting in a few days with Ninja Gaiden 4. I’m sure the team was plenty inspired by Itagaki-san’s previous entries and a desire to do just as good as he did!
