[Update: Officially announced] XBL Gold is being replaced with Game Pass Core; same price, 25+ games instead of monthly games

People were saying Games with Gold were shit lol.

You only miss it when it gone

Anyways, this won’t effect me at all. Got Gamepass Ultimate till 2025. When 2025 comes i will load up for another 2-3 years.

I see no point with this lower tier Gamepass, just get Ultimate it worth the higher price. Now with Starfield about to hit and ABK games about to drop into it.

If they can capitalize on consumers hungry for more, they can really sell Ultimate as the best decision to subscribe.

That’s a yucky choice of games.

In Japan there are only 9 titles so far because cannot include rated mature title.
Sad to see no alternative title added
In Japan, GP is an 18+ only service, so Fallout and other rated mature games can be included normally

Game Pass Core Catalog in Japan
  • Among Us
  • Descenders
  • Forza Horizon 4
  • Grounded
  • Halo 5: Guardians
  • Halo Wars 2
  • INSIDE
  • Ori & The Will of the Wisps
  • Psychonauts 2

According to Microsoft, more titles will be announced as they become available.

Japan is weird. Why is it 18 plus over there?

Because it is not allowed to offer 18+ rated titles to under 18

Yep, GPU here and basically it gets worse. Of course GwG hasn’t exactly been super great for a long time now, with exceptions. But at least we sometimes had some okay stuff.

It’s not the end of the world, but neither can I call it great, as GPU payer.

Do people actually follow that stuff? I was playing 17 plus rated games when i was like 8 years old lol.

Other than Celeste which I played last year, I havnt played a GwG title in like 5 years

I didn’t even bother claiming them most months because of how crappy they became, so while this “technically” is a worse deal for GPU, I can’t say I care tbh

I guarantee the vast majority of Ultimate users couldn’t give a rats ass about GwG

It’s not really a mess as its a system in which the publisher would have to pay to have it in the core tier where it would be pushed out to over 50 million users. As that’s just how business works. They aren’t going to do just include it out of the goodness of their heart.

On paper GPU folks are losing something, but I don’t think it’ll impact most of them in any material way since GwG was so bad.

Overall it’s a good move IMO.

A service you pay for getting worse, however slightly, is not something to celebrate. That’s veering into weird cult-territory.

It has pros and cons, sometimes things can be overall positive if they benefit others even at your own expense.

I don’t think it’s a cause for celebration for Ultimate but it’s a big upgrade for lower tier

GwG was garbage so while it’s not an improvement for Ultimate, im not gonna whine about it either, the pro’s of the lower tier upgrade outweighs the negative for Ultimate

That is true, I would suppose it could be better for the Gold-only folks.

As an Ultimate customer I do think some mild whining is valid. A service I’m paying for gets worse. I always give crap to the Cult and their ability to swallow anything Sony throws at them, celebrating shit like Premium prices etc. Would be a bit off for me to behave similarly to them, but to each their own I guess…

Updated OP.

Have you try Microsoft Rewards?

I get it, nobody wants to see a service they pay for become worse so it’s not something for Ultimate members to celebrate but at least it’s bringing positives to other GP users and not just straight up making Ultimate worse for no reason

Either way I don’t think it’s wrong to be disappointed as a customer, I just can’t bring myself to care about something that’s been terrible for years anyway

I don’t think online will ever be free on console as the cost isn’t the same. As its part of the subsidy. If you want free online mulitplayer the unit cost of each game per unit would go up, the platform fee teh publishers pay would go up, and the console cost would go up. Because those are all partially subsidized by online multiplayer fee.

Now you could argue that not everyone has multiplayer but the system is setup like taxes. Regardless of if you have a child you pay education taxes. Multiplayer tax is the same way. So its doubtful it will get removed as no one is going to want every part of the cog to go up just for the illusion of free multiplayer.

As everyone says it should be free but no one wants to discuss where the money is coming from to do it and how its going to be made up. As you can’t just say well they are trillion dollar company as they still have bills and budgets and staff to pay.

Otherwise, you would need to ask yourself how many jobs need to be cut so you get free multiplayer? As that would be the only alternative if prices aren’t increased.

With all the moves Xbox is making, buying studios/publishers, getting games into gamepass day and date. A raised in price was inevitable. They have said that they do lose out on sales when games goes into Gamepass day one. If people feel that Gamepass ultimate is not worth it? They don’t need to stay sub to Gamepass year round. They can sub to gamepass when the game they want to play drop. For example, Starfield. Sub to Gamepass for a month and play Starfield or whatever. No Need to stay sub all year and pay monthly.
