The Golden Joystick Awards 2023

Voting is live and you have until October 20th to cast your votes. Winners will be announced on November 10th.

While Baldur’s Gate 3 and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom lead the way with four nominations each, Street Fighter 6, Hi-Fi Rush, Dave the Diver, and Starfield aren’t far behind with three nods each. All in all, 100 games and pieces of hardware are represented across 17 categories.

Some notable Xbox-centric nominees:

  • Starfield (Audio, Visual Design, Xbox GotY)
  • Hi-Fi Rush (Audio, Visual Design, Xbox GotY)
  • The Elder Scrolls Online: Necrom (Game Expansion)
  • Fable (Most Wanted)
  • Ark 2 (Most Wanted)
  • Call of Duty (Still Playing)
  • Diablo IV (Multiplayer, PC GotY)

And here are all the Xbox GotY nominees:

  • Starfield
  • Chants of Sennaar
  • Hi-Fi Rush
  • Planet of Lana
  • Dead Space
  • Pentiment

Added on November 11th:

The winners have been announced. Going into it, Baldur’s Gate and Zelda were the two front-runners, but Zelda only got Nintendo GotY, while Baldur’s Gate got both PC GotY and overall GotY and wins in five other categories.

No Xbox first-party game won in any category, except for Starfield which took home Xbox GotY. It’s too bad Hi-Fi Rush didn’t get at least one of the three categories it was nominated in. It feels like it had a pretty good shot in both Audio and Visual design, but those went to FFXVI and Baldur’s Gate respectively.

Just a heads-up: Voting closes on October 20th, so those that care about this sort of thing have three more days to support your favourites.

Also, just noticed this:

Ultimate Game of the Year, Best Lead Performer and Best Supporting Performer have their nominees revealed on October 23, with voting in these three categories open until Oct 27.

I’ll be back on the 23rd with an update on those nominees.

Flexing the service that you can play for yourself.

And for good reason. You can play 30% of the nominated games on Game Pass right now. Once Diablo IV gets added it’ll be 35% and I wouldn’t be surprised to see one or two more of the 3rd parties join at a later date.

So yeah, flex on.

Would be shocked if Alan Wake 2 and BG3 aren’t on gamepass at some point in the future
