I was going to say, based on what little awards I’ve heard about they just scrolled through them without any of the devs able to accept the award… during the awards show.
That’s just not true. Yes, there’s been a lot of simply reading them out, there always is and there’d be the opposite complaint if it they didn’t, but there’s been plenty of people accepting awards in person. Best performance, director, debut indie, music, ongoing game, at least a half dozen more I can’t remember off the top of my head.
You can tell Geoff wants to get that part out of the way and get into the trailers.
I’m beginning to think Elden Ring might actually win.
There have been over a dozen awards where they did exactly what I just said. As soon as it’s over I’ll happily make my own clips to prove it, if necessary.
They’re literally doing just that very thing at this moment for several awards…
Edit: there were six awards given out in less than 60 seconds, where it was literally just a read-through, so nice try. We’re talking Best of Awards for genres here
And having meta roasting going on throughout doesn’t make it any better, just means they’re slightly self-aware…
No need, as I didn’t deny that. In fact, I said “Yes, there’s been a lot of simply reading them out”.
Capcom, Sega, and Xbox are carrying this gen.
They really are. Capcom had such an incredible night.
Edit: Still catching up with all the announcements (Xmas party) but I never thought I’d see the day where we get a new Onimusha and Okami, let alone that they’d be announced at the same time. Capcom really has soared back to the top of the pile these last few years and I’m loving it.
Intergalactic is Naughty Dog’s new IP. Sounds interesting on paper but also sounds a little like Returnal. Looking forward to seeing gameplay as it seems to be more centered around melee combat as opposed to shooting combat.
Astro Bot won 2024 game of the year at The Game Awards which makes me happy for two reasons - in no way, shape or form did I want an expansion (Erdtree) winning and out of the games nominated, Astro Bot is the game that needed the win the most because outside of Mario, 3D platformers don’t sell all that well and I want my sequel. Hopefully, Sony green lights a sequel soon if they haven’t already.
Best announcement for me was The Witcher IV even though it was already announced and very happy that Ciri is the protagonist as that makes logical sense after Wild Hunt. Plus, she can “warp” and time travel. Really looking forward to seeing what CDPR cooks up with The Witcher IV.
The Outer Worlds 2 being announced for 2025 was a bigger surprise than it being listed as coming to PlayStation 5 day one. I do wonder if TOW 2 is a direct sequel. If so, I should probably play the first game at some point next year.
No release dates for South of Midnight (expecting this to now be at the Developer Direct in late January), Borderlands 4 (2025), Mafia: The Old Country (Summer 2025), Dying Light: The Beast (Summer 2025), Crimson Desert (Late 2025, was expecting Spring 2025 and wouldn’t be shocked if it gets pushed into 2026) were disappointing.
A new Onimusha game wasn’t surprising as everything from the 2020 Capcom leak has come true (side note - where the hell is my Final Fight remake??? It will probably be the one game that ends up not happening, ugh) but a new Turok game was and it’s being developed by Saber Interactive. Hoping their budget is pretty good because Space Marine 2 was great so looking forward to seeing if they use that horde tech in Turok.
I haven’t watched but caught some trailers on YT. My three winners are Elden Ring, Outer Worlds 2 and Onimusha.
Intergalactic looks exceedingly generic. Though the Reznor music was good.
Turok was definitely one of the big surprises for me… absolutely love that series (starting going through them again for the backlog challenge), so this was such a treat. Overall some great announcements for games.
Couldn’t agree more with everything; kept an open mind for Intergalactic (not a fan of Druckmann at all, esp over the last few years) but it just looks like they’re trying a Starfield meets Guardians of the Galaxy approach (worked great for Concord…). Comes across as just generic - Elite has the sim element, NMS has the arcadey vastness, and Starfield has the mostly hard-SciFi/NASA atmosphere (I’m being reductionist here) but I just don’t see what this has to sell it as unique and original.
As for the rest of the announcements, largely solid but Capcom definitely stole the show. I got chills the moment I saw the red orbs… now I just need Capcom to remaster the rest of the series so new kids can see why the series is so special
I never played them but I know what the games are and all that. What has me excited for it is Saber working on it because if they implement that horde tech they have with dinosaurs, oh man!!! That would be freaking awesome!!
Yeah buddy!
The insiders really blew it with this one.
- Where’s HL3.
- Where’s Steam Console.
- Where’s GTA6.
- Where’s Days Gone Remaster.
- Where’s South of Midnight.
- Where’s the big “OH SHIT” moments.
Grifters gonna grift. More great news for Xbox and multiplats than anything. Ueda’s new game was the biggest surprise, and the fact that it’s not Sony exclusive
Glad to see Hellblade 2 get the appreciation it deserves. Same for the Fallout TV show. Good show overall.
Just catching up now.
Based purely on the trailers the game I’m most excited for is Split Fiction. I really can’t wait to play this with my daughter.
The one I ended up being most disappointed with was Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. I’ve been waiting so long for a new ND game then they give us that ad placement trailer? I really hate the title too, it should just be Savage Starlight. The 2 second fight looked good and that was about it.
there was one: we get a new Screamer game
SEGA making a new VF was “OH SHIT” moment
