The Big ol' Xbox 3rd Party Releases Discussion Thread (HiFi, SoT, Pentiment, Grounded) (Part 1)

If this rumor is true, I doubt this is some decision from Satya lol. I doubt he would be concerned about the pennies (comparatively) that Hi-fi Rush/Pentiment/ADF/Grounded would make on other platforms and those games (even all together) wouldn’t be enough to bring in gamers to the ecosystem for potential sequels.

If this rumor is true, it’s most likely developers wanting their games on more than just Xbox and making a request to release them on other platforms (as was the case with Ori and ADF). Just my two cents. :person_shrugging:

Spencer said they were not going to do this after Ori because it creates ‘wrong expectations’.

I think porting a high quality first party game to another platform is great for that game but bad for xbox console. Not many people subscribe for video games, hence the plateaued game pass subscriptions. Average person buys a couple of high quality titles and plays them in a year. If you have games x, y and z as your first party quality(game of the year) releases and you port game x to a competitor console you are risking losing that customer for your own hardware. If switch 2 gets all these exclusive Nintendo titles and a high quality Xbox title, there is less of a need to buy an Xbox console. Plus it sets the narrative for future games where people will just wait for them on other consoles instead of buying Xbox. I honestly think this is just the beginning.

Personally i’m not overly bothered by what Microsoft decide to port and stuff so long as we keep getting their first party stuff day one on gamepass. One thing i will say is even if it’s a “small” title i wonder what other devs and stuff will think. Say it is Hi Fi Rush for example. Will Bethesda start to think “Hmm why couldn’t we open up Starfield to all those potential extra sales”. Or will Obsidian think why can’t Pentiment be released on Switch/PS5 for those potential extra sales? Some say a Sea of Thieves makes sense because of the potential extra players but A. You can say that about every exclusive and B. I rarely see this logic about PS or Nintendo exclusives (I don’t see talk of Gravity Rush or Last of Us being ported for those “extra sales”).

I think picking and choosing which exclusives you make multiplatform is just opening yourself up to questions over every exclusive and rightly so in some ways. The idea that people will buy Hi Fi on Switch for example and then buy an Xbox for Hi-Fi 2 is a bit flawed as a more likely outcome is they’ll just wait for the sequel to come out on their console and the question will always be from the media “You released Hi Fi 1 on Switch, why are you not doing the same for the sequel?”

Sony fanboys will entertain at nauseum the notion that Xbox exclusives do not exist. If they exist they do not matter. If they matter they will be ported.

And so on.

This stupid insider teasing. I really dislike it. If you know something and want to share it, just share it. What’s the game you’re talking about? Save me with that vague crap. Unless you need to be vague bc you don’t know.

Totally agree

Honestly, I feel that Tango Gameworks as a japanese studios would be hurt by not releasing their software on their home consoles. If you are a japanese dev, you want your children to play your games on their consoles, which is not likely to be a xbox.

Really annoying how a random guy on youtube can influence the discourse around a platform in such a big way with a vague AF “rumor”…I am already tired of this topic and it’s not even 24hrs old plus we all know that we’ll have to deal with this “Xbox going 3rd party” BS for months again because now every Xbox podcast will jump on this shit for the clicks.

Also if you know something fuckin’ say it…saying vague crap like “the game is bigger than As Dusk Falls but not as big as Halo/Gears/Forza” or “don’t put so much emphasis on what I said about this or that when we talked about this topic” (LOL) is completely worthless. Of course if this turns out to be BS the easy way out is always “plans change dude!” and if it turns out a much smaller deal than what is teased right now and it’s something like KI2013 on Switch they will say “well technically I was correct”. Same shit every time.

That’s true too. And since then no other games have been brought to other platforms, right? They have ABK now, the big one finally finished, so what’s the point? It’s just odd.

And it isn’t Nate only saying it either, Shinobi602 was before him saying it, late last year. And while Nate has had some things wrong, he got plenty right too.

This!

The person said it’s not Redfall, it’s a game that was in the GOTY conversation, ok cool, so fucking spill the beans already at that point.

Saw this linked on gamingleaksandrumours, another reported insider says it is indeed Hi-Fi Rush coming to switch. From a quick search, this user seems to be the source of multiple leaks regarding Persona projects (such as the existence of the Persona 3 Remake and details about it, and the launch of various Persona games on game pass) which have so far been correct.

If that’s true, well I guess that relationship is really strong. Just wish we’d get some Nintendo games in return, it doesn’t seem to work that way though. Wish it did.

On this point, I would still say there are benefits to us as Xbox users in any of these decisions. Xbox being successful will always benefit the ecosystem, even if it comes from expanding beyond that platform.

I think a good recent example is Fallout 76 - one of the bits of information that came out from the FTC was that the games support was on the verge of ending if they didn’t bring in more monthly users - and their plan for achieving that was making the game available on PS+ - which seems to have worked. As a result the game continues to be supported, ultimately meaning more content is available for the Xbox playerbase, and they have already announced some very exciting plans for 2024.

If true, sounds to me that Nintendo is used to expand the audience for smaller games while big ones like obvious Starfield and Hellblade 2 remain in their platform. Plus the japanese fanbase would want to check this game out as it has been growing in popularity.

Hi-Fi Rush on Switch would make sense. I think it would do really well on the platform, and Switch being the most popular platform in Japan, I could see the devs and Microsoft agreeing to make a Switch port.

Hi-Fi Rush isn’t even on XB1… why would you let int be on Switch. What do you get back from that to your platform, this is one of most acclaimed Xbox titles that has great success in perception and ratings. It’s not the move.

It’s their only universally acclaimed exclusive since FH5, Xbox’s biggest enemy isn’t Playstation, it’s themselves

If it’s true, I’m beginning to think that maybe their lack of Japanese marketshare is an issue and existing Japanese devs and any future acquisitions might also look at poets to Switch 2.

Not great, but I feel like there is enough of a power disparity between a Switch 2 and an Xbox that they could get away with it without pissing off as many people as they would if they were porting to Playstation. I think we could see them position Switch as a handheld companion to Xbox if they don’t make their own.

I don’t think anyone would mind MS buying something like SEGA and keeping everything multiplat or still releasing Persona games and whatever else on Nintendo platforms

To me this feels different though, I think it’s a mistake to let narratives continue to build like this for your “best” exclusive in years

I feel this insider is putting a lot on the line here. If true, then wow they jumped up as a very credible insider . If false, then they lose a lot of credibility for causing this much of chaos .
