Besides that Xbox has already showed other ways of generating revenue for example early access another is the Xbox wraps. I’m sure if they put out Hi-Fi Rush wraps they could easily sell over a million like they do controllers and recoup the money. The games so far on early access have all sold over 2million each. The wraps are certain to be big for COD and maybe Indiana Jones.
Rather than all this rumors one should consider the FTC case and what was said under oath. We know Matt Booty absolutes wants to spend Sony out of business, Phil Spencer had both Red Fall and Indiana Jones made exclusive. Satya said he had no love for exclusives, but it was the way of the business. All this said ending of last year and Pete Hines retires. Besides if they’re thinking all this multiplat stuff why have they still not said anything about ABK. They could have announced that MMO as a multiplat at Blizzcon but No they rather be mum about it. Also, what about Sony are they open to all this. If these games are truly coming to their platform Microsoft will market it heavily and their platform could be seen as just a bridge to Game Pass. There is a possibility it could harm their own push just as some of Microsoft’s services have hurt the competition like Office 365 basically has no real equal. Perhaps one more thing to consider is these games have to be ported and that could be expensive when one looks at those Insomniac leaks. Xbox has done a lot to solidify their brand I think they’ll be fine.
It took five years to make, and didn’t sell that well. It never got high in the played charts on Xbox or Steam. It’s an incredible game, but not a big one.
For me the best way this works is the exchange program below have discussed.
HiFi for Returnal. Sea of Thieves of Helldivers Etc
The games may not match up like for like but I think this would be ok for smaller and live service games. However the only way it works without upsetting everyone is if the announcement shows both games going to both platforms at the same time. Not HiFi Rush first then 3 months later Returnal.
It’ll likey never happen that way but for me it’s the best way. Both companies get to pick up some sales on lesser games and it’s not a one way street.
As for swaps with Nintendo I have no idea as they’ll never give up a first party game.
Bonus questions, is the switch 2 expected to be equal or more powerful to the series S? Could making porting easier.
Ultimately I don’t think works as a one way street as it devalues the brand and those 3rd party sales bring in the big bucks.
No, it’ll be Steam Deck at best
Xbox is a 3rd party publisher already. PlayStation isn’t, MLB does the publishing for The Show on Xbox/Nintendo. I highly doubt there will ever be any “exchange”. It’s just Xbox wanting to make more money.
MS never really had an expectations for it to be a big one.
There arent any numbers that explain Indiana Jones and Starfield exclusive, Hi Fi Rush multi. The only explanation is they’re sacrificing a pawn to claim another king.
On its own HFR going to another platform is absolutely dumb, stupid and moronic.
If its the price …the cost of buying another major publisher (Take 2!) …i’d get over it. We all would.
Because these sites and people need to have something to print or they don’t get paid.
Look at it another way. Even if Microsoft were to release some new AA IPs on Playstation etc… The next time they go to acquire a new publisher, they can just say we release our games on our competitors console…
I don’t think so, that will be setting a dangerous precedent. Once you do that it becomes the norm for regulators to ask and refer to. They went out of their way to make sure only COD was what was guaranteed and signed as multiplat. Before the Zenimax closing there were some of their executives talking first and best on Xbox but once the closing was done that was not the case. I think it’s similar here.
They both want to make more money. If Microsoft presents a valid case why Xbox bringing games to Playstation and Playstation bringing games to Xbox is beneficial to both, they just might do it.
And Sony already has a publishing arm of sorts on Xbox.
I game on PC now so it really doesn’t affect me. I can honestly see Xbox going multiplatform in some capacity, even if it is smaller titles.
They have a shareprice to drive up… they don’t care about us in the boardroom unless you own a bucketload of MSFT shares
I don’t think going multiplatform on consoles will do much for their share price. I also don’t think it makes sense to go multiplat until they have unified their store both on PC and Mobile like Steam such that you can have one store between all platforms.
I agree. My take is that it was tailored as a proof-of-concept for Game Pass. But was there another beat them up last year that topped 3M players? I don’t think so, unless you include FFXVI in that genre.
Yea you are probably right.
BTW Hi Fi Rush just got updated today to add official Dualshock/Dualsense compatibility, with the chance to see the Playstation buttons instead now on options
Dont’ remember seeing that in FH, Starfield or any other exclusive game from MS but it could mean nothing thoDidn’t steam officially add dual sense support , so maybe it’s to go with that
Hi-Fi Rush supports the Dualsense’s adaptive triggers too. It seems like an update that’s a bit too specific for this controller
Matt Booty to Blizzard employees:
This is a difficult process, but it is one that will best enable Blizzard and Xbox to deliver ambitious games for our players on more platforms and in more places than ever before.
This “bring games to more players to more platforms” seems to have become a persistent corporate speech among Microsoft execs, from Stuart to Nadella to Booty. It seems to be the strategy Microsoft have chosen. We’ll see where it takes Xbox I guess…
They added the chance to see which games support dualsense now, no games from MS other than this Hi Fi Rush after today’s update supports it tho.
Well that settles it I guess.
