That would be perfect.
That has to be Xbox biggest dev challenge, making development for PC and console technically the same
Am gonna vet.
If they so much as put everything over to playstation and say fuck you to its current console userbase then am done with the brand itself.
Its absolute disrespectfull of Phil and higher ups to use data to follow trends that will not occur in a long ass while, instead of actual sympathy for its userbase that has been with them on very hard times.
I wish for the console to be desirable, i want to have flagship experiences that are exclusive to users of its system, not anywhere else.
Is it so much to ask for this?!
Am i just waste because my investment is going to The garbage in order to suck off playstation and nintendo money while leaving me, a consumer, out to dry and die?
Xbox is dead if they continue this train of thought. Goodbye hardware, goodbye game pass, goodbye id xbox. Because its brand, in genral, will be gone once Halo, Gears, Forza and Fable are ported over.
If folks see me as dramatic, how about understanding a console user who only has one fucking console and can’t afford another one for crying out loud.
Is this fair treatment?!
How about the fact of a duopoly of overpriced games from Sony and Nintendo will happen because of this, thats a fun future for everyone right?!
Competition is no good, right?!
Then someone tell me how much is this going to harm Xbox for in the long wrong? Because it will and i will enjoy seeing Phil be miserable because of his takes. That dude deserves every bit of judgement from actual fans of the hardware.
Nice to @Jez posting here!
As always, a friendly reminder to remain civil. Debate opinions, not the person.
True, I guess to be fair it’s not your fault if stuff that is said on podcast gets posted elsewhere because stuff can get taken out of context.
Engagement part might be a bit unfair for me to say, so sorry about that part. Anyway, I understand things can change with news, but I feel with this topic it’s tricky to maneuver around. I feel no matter what is said it’s going to cause emotions on all sides because people don’t want xbox to die, but others want to play xbox games without buying the console
Honestly, this whole thing makes me feel like Phil and company gambled on gamepass and failed. I feel if future is multiplatform, then you’ll see a good chunk of users migrate to Playstation, and will become okay with paying full price for Xbox games. I feel in that scenario they’re hurting gamepass because most people sub to gamepass due to being on xbox ecosystem.
I have no clue what’s going to happen ,but I think many will be okay to just buy a playstation console, unsub from gamepass, and buy Microsoft games on Playstation.
Anyway, I assume they’ve done the math and figured out it’s most likely better to go multiplat and lose gamepass subs than to focus on xbox and pc with gamepass.
Apart from being data driven, I think higherups simply want more money after spending a lot in acquisitions. After crunching the numbers they seem to think they can make more money being a third party than not.
I don’t believe in the chances of Xbox consoles surviving in the future, even if they adopt the PC-like approach. When Xbox started to release games on PC, sales shrinked. Now, with games on other consoles the same will happen. There Will be a point in which Xbox consoles won’t be worth It for third parties nor Microsoft. I don’t have a crystal ball but the path is set and clear.
Blaming Xbox fans is non-sense. This is all 100% Xbox’s fault.
They re gonna lose a ton of revenue. Not only from losing GP subs, but also from losing purchases in the Xbox store.
I guess the Jez’s clarification didn’t worked well, people still doom n gloom
If your console is effectively a gaming PC I think it’d have to be pretty bad for it to not be worth it for Microsoft. These companies making windows portables sell orders of magnitude fewer consoles than Xbox and it’s still worth it to them to make those devices.
Because it does little to already ruin the mood of an already depressed console userbase that feel like all they invested is going down the drain.
The want a win and Xbox Higher-ups refuse to do that. Its like they love to forget that Rome was not build in a day.
Those companies don’t have to sell a subscription service nor have to sell games through an owned store. Because of that, those companies can price their devices higher. Microsoft wouldnt be able to.
A “console”/handheld that plays all my console games as well as steam games sounds pretty awesome to me assuming it happens
A console that no longer cares about exclusives because it can essentially play anything anyway sounds gravy
I don’t get how that changes anything? You mean because of subsidies? Phil just told us he doesn’t think the subsidy model makes sense anymore. I think they are over taking big losses on hardware.
More expensive consoles means less consoles sold which means less games sold on you store and less GP subscriptions.
I think that calls into question the viability of Game Pass moreso than it does the hardware though.
I very much doubt that. technology is getting to a place where phones can play games and what’s to say Tvs within the next 5 to 10 years won’t have built in gaming tech as everything seems to be embracing AI.
In my opinion consoles sales will only keep falling as the new generation move to other devices. I very much doubt many will move to PlayStation to buy Xbox games if anything most will still stick to Game Pass and the ecosystem. Sony doesn’t have a magic formula let’s not forget they have failed at VR twice now even their subscription couldn’t reach a million throughout the ps4 generation and had to be merged with PS network.
Also it should be noted so many games come to Steam and skip consoles or are timed, Xbox bringing in Steam or going PC will result in many DeFacto exclusives considering they will need to be optimized for PlayStation if they continue in the traditional way.
At the end of the day, I think it is the experience and not the exclusives that matter just like with PC. Having Fortnite and a ton of exclusives has not done much for the Epic game store.
So Sony would have a monopoly on Consoles and Anime. How nice!
I think many of us are misreading them. I don’t think they are going third party in the literal way. They are attempting to expand the market by opening it up for more platforms and bringing in more business opportunities. I doubt consoles as they are now last another 10 years. This PC storefront approach seems more to me like the movie market. If Xbox can make this work Sony might follow with a storefront of their own, and the idea of a single box having all the stores playing all games might become the norm.
