The Big ol' Xbox 3rd Party Releases Discussion Thread (HiFi, SoT, Pentiment, Grounded) (Part 1)

But my two cents is I agree emulation would probably be a nightmare especially with licensing. Which is why play anywhere is a great feature. Though even then from my understanding a bit of software has to be built from the ground up with it in mind… Making it difficult if not impossible to just “enable” games with said feature.

Not asking for emulation. Some suggest bringing the Xbox OS, but I think what many are asking is just to have the Play Anywhere feature enabled even if it has to be reworked. They certainly do it for a lot of Game Pass games.

Play Anywhere requires the game’s publisher to be OK with it, as it gives a license for both console and PC. Some pubs are all in (Sega) but most aren’t outside of Game Pass deals. Putting the Xbox OS on a PC is also opening it up to hackers, they’ll never dual boot it.

Yep, with Sega being pretty into play anywhere I’m sure there getting a much larger cut of purchases from ms store. Though that’s speculation on my end

I get that which is why I’m even with the idea of extra charge or fee for Play Anywhere. I certainly hope that all ABK games would at least get it.

How I’m imagining Jesse rn lol

Eh, that’s part of discussion sometimes answers put an end to thing.

Nothing wrong with it.

I think new ABK games will mostly be Play Anywhere as they come to Game Pass, and some newer ones like Diablo 4 may have it retrofitted in.

They did it for Starfield, so Bethesda has gone that way so think we can assume ABK will.

Unfortunately a charge for Play Anywhere for third parties is unlikely to happen - I don’t even like GTA 5 but I’ve somehow bought it to play with friends / tried it on Game Pass / bought it so someone could try it on many platforms - Xbox 360, PS4, Xbox One, PC and Series X (thankfully only the first at full price).

I’ve bought / played GTA3 on PS2, PC, mobile and Series X, I’ve got the Witcher 3 on PC, Xbox and PS4 plus Kingdom Come Deliverance on all 3 too.

Often it’s as I get a newer piece of tech I might re-buy a game on it to see it at its best, or buying it again to play with friends on that ecosystem.

That double dipping can be a money spinner for companies like Take Two, so you’d likely only get those with a good MS and Game Pass relationship like Sega on board - and they’ll probably do it free anyway as part of the GP deal

I do not think new ABK games will be play anywhere, because battle.net already makes it that essentially. I don’t think they’ll do Microsoft store versions when battle.net profiles being tied in to your xbox one is already a thing for all their recent stuff.

I think you are right especially for the short term. Though I have a suspicion either the ms store front or battle. Net will go to the way side. It doesn’t make long term business sense to manage 2 storefronts.

It’s been a while since I commented, but for me this is a very ill advised decision, also they chose to be wishy-washy in the messagging, meaning there are more games along the line, they simply don’t want to tell the truth. It’s the recipe for a disaster, I’m seeing Xbox HW numbers cratering this year and Xbox undoing in 3-4 years at best if they don’t operate some huge course correcting. Starting with changing Xbox higher-ups, it’s very clear some people over there have made their time, considering also negligible results over the years, expecially in quality and timing of releases (acquiring external entities to bolster numbers is never a long term solution, look at Disney, which is crashing and burning since they have no more legacy IP to milk and destroy). The fact Xbox couldn’t release ANY blockbuster game this gen outside Halo, Forza and the newly acquired Starfield is all the proof needed.

“we don’t release successful games except the successful ones” is not among the key performance indices that executives are judged upon.

I think this post couldn’t be more wrong, in fact the current leadership is some of the best we’ve ever had, next to Jay Allard and Peter Moore, bringing the Xbox division to historically high revenues in the last few years.

Your list is also wrong and is missing tons of titles. I could also easily write something just as dumb and say all Sony’s had is Spider-Man, Horizon and Ratchet and that their current leadership should be fired and replaced.

More advocating for people to lose their jobs, huh?

curious what you are refering too?

Read the post 3 before theirs.

gotcha… welp thats a horrid take… kind of wish I stayed lost in the dark

Jez (if u believe him) said on Xbox Two that the only games that are currently being worked on are the already announced 4 games.
