The Big ol' Xbox 3rd Party Releases Discussion Thread (HiFi, SoT, Pentiment, Grounded) (Part 1)

I play on everything, and already built a solid PC in 2021 that’s still perfect for games I’m looking forward to, so I’m already set for now.

I continued with Xbox even after the PC because I just like the ecosystem, game sharing with a friend, overall just the console experience (which I feel is getting tarnished by “idiot taxes” that I previously mentioned at this point anyway).

Besides that I don’t have a particular attachment to gamerscore or anything, and I think that in a Steam sale it would cost like $500 at most if I actually wanted to replace EVERY game I already owned again (I wouldn’t, I just don’t think library attachment is that big of a deal).

Yup, as a logical costumer would, maximize our value, and that would be buying a console( or PC) that plays the most games possible.

Excatly, this right here is an industry shaking movement and God knows what will happen to the it if it happens, the consequences, effects…etc could be monumental. Them just announcing these games coming to other platform (when that happen, lets stop fooling ourselves) will be something that will put anyone to think.

Not dooming mods, just entertaining some scenarios.

I don’t think Microsoft will stop making consoles. I think they’ll just decouple their games from being tied to their consoles. More of an Apple TV/Roku/Firestick approach to hardware and content.

I’m just finding it hard to get worked up over the idea that the whole Xbox ecosystem is coming apart because a 6 year old live service game and a game (HiFi Rush) that almost assuredly started multi-plat initially may be coming to another console.

I would like to see everyone’s reactions in a couple years when MS has to close Tango or another studio because their games weren’t performing up to expectations.

Just because a studio is owned by MS doesn’t mean they are free to operate in the red. We have zero insight into what is going on behind the scenes. We have no idea whether HiFi moved the needle at all. There was talk from Grubb that it didnt sell well. But we do know that Rare hasn’t released anything since SoT (outside of updates for SoT), and Everwild could be another couple year’s out.

There are countless reasons why these individual decisions could be made, and I’d rather hear A.) that it is true and B.) the explanation before I feel any kind of way about any of it.

If this happening it’s just wild to me that they do it before Bethesda/ABK even do basically anything

Most of the Bethesda lineup hasn’t launched and CoD and the rest of ABK hasn’t even released on GP yet and we still don’t have the mobile store, saying it feels premature is the biggest understatement possible

What do you mean by this? Like buy it one place and you have it anywhere?

I think it’s time to address this to fans, I was in a wait and see mode for a bit, but the wildfire has grown too large, and it’s not gonna stop until they say something. I was hoping this conversation would die out a bit, but that ain’t happening anymore.

It’s not just that. It started with Ori on the Switch. Then As dusk Falls. And now Hi-Fi Rush and Sea of Thieves, which is one of Microsoft most successful games in a decade.

The point is, when will this stop? It’s probably not stopping with Sea of Thieves, so things will only get worse from now on.

Oh well, I guess it’s time to dust off the old PlayStation & mentally retrain myself for square, triangle, circle & X + symmetrical sticks.

We had a good run. Just kidding (I hope…).

I agree BTW that Sea of Thieves is a very curious one, specifically because it’s a successful live service game & potentially releasing it on PlayStation 5 helps Sony fill a hole in its own live service offerings.

Wait & see but if this is true, then it clearly means a shift in strategy.

If SOT and/or HFR launch in PS I’m out. I always said that Xbox was magnanimous but there are limits you can’t cross.

Ori was a third-party studio who asked to release the game on switch and MS obliged. As dusk falls was a third-party game whose publisher was dropped, and MS picked it up because they liked it.

What number of GP subs or Xbox consoles were moved for As Dusk Falls? My guess would be somewhere close to 0%. HiFi Rush was a blip on the radar and Sea of Thieves is almost a decade old and has assuredly tapped out its potential audience on its currently available platforms.

Is Sony in trouble because Marathon is going to be on Xbox?

I am 500 messages behind in this thread and do not have time to catch up. Can someone briefly explain why the last several messages are about Xbox leaving the hardware space?

Is there any actual news here or is it all just speculation tied to HiFi Rush going to a different platform?

Thanks

Jeff Grubb has speculated SOT and a few others are also going multi plat

While over X hasn’t spread the recent one, I think Xbox might be getting to the point of respond now instead of wait.

I can understand the frustration. When choosing between a PS5 and a Xbox Series X, I weighted the pros and cons of each console and decided to go with the Series X. One of the majors pros for Xbox were the exclusives games.

When these games stop being exclusive and begin to get released on other platforms, one of the biggest factors that made me buy this console is gone. I’m not frustrated because more people are going to play these amazing games, I’m frustrated because I feel lied to when one of the deciding factors on my purchase is simply gone.

Sure, this is a bit hyperbolical. But Sea of Thieves is not the end of this process. It’s probably more of a beginning, and others exclusives will follow. That’s the problem.

It started out as a rumor that HFR would be released on Switch. Now we have a rumor that HFR and SOT are launching on PS5.

It started as HFR going to Switch

Then apparently going to PS5 also

Now SoT going to both according to Grubb

All rumors so far but the point people have been making is if SoT is coming everything might as well be and nobody is buying hardware without proper exclusives

Sea of Thieves might be coming to Playstation, slippery slopes, The Brand is tarnished, 3rd parties will drop Xbox for reasons, everyone will get rid of their Xbox’s.

Honestly, the talking points haven’t changed much since the beginning.
