The Big ol' Xbox 3rd Party Releases Discussion Thread (HiFi, SoT, Pentiment, Grounded) (Part 1)

Ah, yeah that is a lot. But still, it’s one of the benefits of the PS5 in general. It’s also has cheaper extra storage etc.

Possibly. Problem is that regardless of what Microsoft does, PlayStation 5 also seems to be the lead platform which means that the most work and attention to detail will go into that version of the game.

This is why I don’t understand Microsoft’s strategy releasing their first party games on PlayStation 4/5 when they’re 2 1/2 years away from releasing their next generation console. With having a developer friendly console with full exclusives and maybe some third party exclusives (I would go to Capcom and fund a Dino Crisis reboot for starters), the next Xbox could have had a very legitimate chance at being the lead console for next generation. Now though, I don’t see it happening.

I think long term Xbox fans are just upset because MS has so many games now from all the acquisitions, that this was the first real chance of “fighting back” per say.

A new Xbox console will all new games which are exclusives from xgs, Bethesda and ABK would be a sight to see. Sadly, it’s not happening in this timeline

Exactly. When Microsoft had only 5 studios, they didn’t give anyone anything except Minecraft. Now with 30+, it’s like, here you go. SMH.

The console wars are dead because console install bases are shrinking and not growing.

But Sony and Nintendo install bases aren’t shrinking though. The PS5 is outpacing the PS4 , and I don’t think it will be that big of a decline for their install base. Plus, the Switch 2 is going to do monster numbers. At the moment is mainly Microsoft’s install base that is shrinking and not so much the other 2.

The major issue for Sony of course is the sustainability of their AAA releases, which is why they will most likely pivot to PC. However, I don’t think we can say the other 2 install bases are shrinking because they seem on pace with their successful consoles

Nintendo used to have mobile and console, now they had to combine them together. PlayStation is killing itself cost-wise to try and maintain their hardware sales and aren’t actually making money. It’s not sustainable, and the numbers of console users hasn’t gone up in nearly 30 years.

Xbox needs to release some first party games asap. Ain’t no way the community is throwing a tiff about little ol Pentiment lol.

Not it’s not, PS5 is behind on PS4, is going to have an even worse year in 2024 and will fall more behind, and is making less money per user so profitability is at an all time low, and that’s with Sony giving away their PS5s. And that number is most likely taking into account the amount of Xbox One users that have jumped ship. The reality is that the console user base at this point in time (Xbox+PS5) is lower than it was last gen. And again, the most likely scenario is that both actually lost several million users, except that some migrated from MS to Sony side so it doesn’t look as bad, but if those users are only playing COD and Fortnite, no matter how you put it, Sony isn’t making money.

Sony is basically whoring itself out to get all the third party exclusives and third party publicity and selling their console on deals as often as they can and bundling it with games and yet, with all the efforts possible, sales are still worse than before and making them less money than before. How can that be considered successful is beyond me.

Yeah, their current production isn’t sustainable unless they do day and date with PC, and even then they still need to make some radical changes.

Install base wise Playstation is more than fine selling 100m+ units a gen, but they need to increase the amount of money the 100m+ users spend because spending is weak due to numbers somewhat inflated by having the casual market

PS5 sales are not behind PS4 sales at this point in the gen, and if so only by a small margin, which is whatever because PS4 sold 120m units. They should be able to repeat 100m+ units sold this gen and next, so they’re fine in that regard.

The people who are buying PS5s are the same people who were buying PS4s. The console market hasn’t grown in 17 years.

I personally have doubts. Considering 0 price drops and the fact the system won’t go down in price most likely means it’ll have a sharp decline at a much faster pace than previous gens. Not being able to reach mass market prices means lower install base and free to play means games are made for lowest common denominator and people have less incentives to upgrade.

Sony also has nothing in the pipeline this year that could move the needle significantly , and both consoles are waiting for GTA 6 which might help on the tail end imo but might not be enough.

This is definitely the issue for me, it’s a very dry 6 months ahead for xbox, so any little spark is going to be like wild fire.

2.5 million is not that small, especially with Xbox also declining. They’re not going to get close to PS4 numbers if they can’t cut the price.

Negative discourse for Microsoft.

Whether anybody agrees with the crazy fanboys or not is irrelevant to the fact the Microsoft is dealing with negative discourse.

And BTW, for better or worse, social media is a part of the real world. Who else do you think is going on X or where ever talking up all this nonsense? They’re not robots I’ll tell you that much.

Im surprised how dry it is. Like since Forza theyve had nothing and Hellblade in May.

I honestly wouldnt mind a PS approach of having some remasters. At least they wouldnt be charging 60 bucks for them

Either way im still playing more on my xbox than ever with persona yakuza tekken and soon Dragons Dogma.

No offence…but who in the fuck thought it would be a good idea to delay the 120fps for xbox for over 14 months? Thats a fucking sackable offence.

Xbox version should have had 120fps support from the beginning or soon after it

Why did they wait now?

Microsoft need to get a hold of some of these idiotic devs. Sorry. From a PR perspective this is just stupid on a whole new level.

Not that 120fps on pentiment actually matters. Its about the principle of it all. Just fucking bad PR and awful mishap.

To the guy saying who cares. Your must be living in delusional land if noone should care

Its not about the game and 120fps support. Noone gives a shit about pentiment running 120fps

Just imagine if this was Ori. That ran 60fps on xbox then 120fps on ps and xbox update was delayed. It would be a complete and utter embarassment.

Its like sony releasing MLB on xbox and hsving it run double the frame rate at launch while ps version is bugged out

Sony would simply not release the patch period for xbox until it was fixed.

I do think there has to be a good hook for developers to choose one has a lead platform. If the nextgen games released from here on show promise on Xbox hardware and software that could help. Rockstar showed it was interested in having their game look it’s best by investing the time and effort in the 1X and many devs followed as the differences then were enough to end the resolution gate debate. I like the idea that Microsoft is building tech into their software, it almost makes me believe with AI perhaps it might be possible to build the next software that will power games on all devices. Maybe even build GPU tech into software that will make hardware GPU a thing of the past.
