The Big ol' Xbox 3rd Party Releases Discussion Thread (HiFi, SoT, Pentiment, Grounded) (Part 1)

So what you are saying is people should not either report or speculate on things so that insecure xbox fans don’t feel bad and lose their minds?

Mods are fan and people so they of course can have their opinions.

Btw, when many of them, who invest their time and money (probably), on creating a space to talk about Xbox online are really down on the brand, you know things are not probably what they should.

Imagine being upset about someone posting the pentiment news for example…

You’re right, there’s lots of sensitive Xbox fans out there, and they need to learn to relax. Xbox has taken a new path and there’s nothing we can do about it.

The info was already out about the HFR and sea of thieves. Speculation or news on Starfield was not required at all. With or without that Starfield news, the community was already questioning the exclusivity of all the other games. Releasing that Starfield news didn’t help the community in anyway.

And I am not blaming the stuff here. They have every right to report and Infact i believe in there reporting. All I am saying is, not releasing that info would have been better for the community.

If Starfield had been announced for PS5 though, or is announced later this year with the DLC, and XboxEra had said “oh yeah we heard rumours of that earlier this year” they’d be getting pilloried for that.

Particularly given they say it was a reliable source, and I’ve no doubt Xbox at least considered Starfield even if they never port it.

So it’s a lose/lose situation - but at least by reporting it, XboxEra keep the trust of their readers and allow us to judge for ourselves how big a deal it is…

What I found more interesting about this is the file size.

In previous tech videos Microsoft have basically advised that their compression tech (BCPack with Zlib) would outperform off the shelf tools.

However here again we can see PlayStation’s compression tools (Kraken & Oodle) which are owned by Epic working significantly better.

  • 11.4 GB Xbox
  • 6.37 GB Playstation

That’s 44% smaller on Playstation.

It will be interesting if the same applies on the other 3 games.

Respectfully, it’s not our job to be a PR arm for Microsoft. We’re here for the community, that’s why we built this place, but “we” (XboxEra) have to remain objective. We’ll continue to report news, be it positive or negative. Otherwise, what’s the point in reporting news at all?

The funny thing about echo-chambers is they work both ways. I’d rather converse in an environment that has many opinions, rather than one where everyone is either overwhelmingly positive or overwhelmingly negative. There’s a balance to be struck.

If you find yourself weighed down by a raft of negative opinions, take a break from things for a bit. It’s just video games.

I am not stopping anyone. I am simply calling for the need of more optimistic support.

This is were I beg to differ. Even as it stands now, any xbox game may go to any other platform in future depending upon what leader ship decides in future.

Why would xbox era be blamed for any of it? Because what they hear may or may not be true. It may or may not be turned into a real port.

Reacting towards speculation and inside information is what I am most concerned about.

Again, the xbox era stuff have all the rights on how to share info with community. I am just saying they could do some things differently.

You don’t have to agree with me. It is not about what’s right or wrong. It is just state of the matter.

I believe xbox era article about Starfield. I think Xbox fans need to be prepared for the possibility of any game to get ported to Playstation. I think the recent Microsoft move is about Microsoft growing revenue rather than install base and Gamepass. I think the shift happened when Satya and others changed their bonuses from gamepass subs to gaming revenue growth. .

Anyway, I think its clear you have to decide if you’re okay with paying for games on other platforms or fine with just having a gamepass box.

No company I think wants to do one to the detriment of the other though, so I doubt they are ok losing console sales and Gamepass subscribers, which is why I don’t think we need to be prepared to lose all exclusivity and that only a handful of titles will make the move.

Please don’t believe everything you see on the internet… Pentiment does not run at 120fps on PS5. That individual just had their TV set to 120fps.

Too many people now are « insiders » or have sources that supposedly know stuff, and too much stuff ends up being incorrect. I find the gaming « journalists » to be very unreliable in the end and being more akin to clickbait YouTube videos than real journalists. When I read a CBC articles here in Canada or something from the BBC or Reuters, I don’t have worries if that info is real or not. If I read something on a gaming website, honestly it’s hard to actually know.

People say Starfield was considered, yet apparently MS needed to do a town hall to explain to people some games might be ported. How do people from Bethesda not even know about their own games maybe being ported over, but some random people on Twitter know and leak that info?

I’m telling ya, being the ONLY company out of the Big 3 to have timed first party exclusives will come with a heavy price. Sony prepping for an industry wide monopoly at this point. I still can’t believe Microsoft can’t see the forest for the trees on this one. Crazy times…

It’s more so of a pivot due to console sales and gamepass subs lagging, and most likely finishing behind XB1 in sales. It’s the reason why Microsoft bonuses changed from gamepass subs to gaming revenue.

The Starfield and Verge articles were about things Microsoft is ‘considering’ and I think we took it all as something more concrete than that. They are likely considering everything from just these 4 games to all GaaS games to select games to all games.

I don’t think it’s clear at all what way they will actually go though. Unless you think they are lying to us, the strategy will be fluid and will be changed based on success of games, direction of the industry, and impact to Xbox.

True, it’s not clear which direction they’ll go, and it’s safe to give it 2-3 years to see what direction they’ll go. I am just at the point where I wouldn’t be shocked about games being ported to other consoles.

It’s clear it’s not just those 4 that are getting ported to other consoles, but we have no clue what level of game will be ported, but a clearer picture will happen within 2-3 years about frequency and port strategy.

It is interesting to me because all of the things that you listed as why people might be attached to a console are things that I would personally attribute to the games. Similarly, I would not reminisce on the times I had with my DVD player or Tape Deck, my emotions would be associated with the movies and music that I played on them. We’re all different though.

I think for all of the good you mentioned, emotional attachment to a console brings a ton of bad with it as well. The people having a hard time dealing with that bad will benefit from detachment. Im not going to make the blanket statement that emotional attachment is bad, but it is definitely bad for some people.

Seeing Xbox centered accounts like PeterOvo5 talking about Pentiment as if it’s factual too, when it isn’t. Not that you are even going to notice 120fps in a game like that, nor is it needed.

That being said, once the PS5 Pro comes out we are absolutely going to see Xbox games such as CoD having the edge on Pro, and maybe other games (after the first four) too. But there shouldn’t be big differences between XSX and PS5. And round the time Xbox is ready to do day and date releases I bet the next Xbox is here. Or not, and several big games have the edge on Pro. Time will tell.

MS is clearly preparing for a future without dedicated consoles. Getting more people aware of quality Xbox titles will result in more subscriptions down the line, when that $500 console investment is no longer required.

I suspect MS might be the only one who sees that proverbial forest, while a lot of gamers seem to be staring at a Series-X-shaped tree.

It’s difficult to explain something like the reasons behind emotional attachment to anything. But I think most people would find it easier to understand attachment to something like Xbox, PS or Nintendo than a random DVD-player. It’s also not as easy as just the plastic boxes themselves, but you know that.
