Sorry, I was just quoting the post

It’s this bad ? Damn didn’t know it. TIL. Thanks for the correction.

I get that but we can now really see that Microsoft is just a corporate-focused only on profit and doesn’t care about Xbox brand identity or fanbase.

Maybe it’s time to merge Xbox into the Windows and Surface teams and make a new Windows console with support from a Surface Lite handheld for the next-gen.

I still can’t get my head around how Sony screwed over their entire PS3 library. Classics like the God of War HD Collection are forever lost… unless someone forks over a month’s payment for PlayStation Plus Premium & streams the game from their catalogue. Meanwhile from the same time period of releases, I can boot up Gears of War 2 & it’s in 4K on the Series X.

It’s stuff like that which makes Xbox such a better place to play. Especially for someone like me who plays a lot of older titles. That’s the ecosystem which Microsoft should absolutely not screw over or risk with a haphazard multiplat strategy.

That is why I stick on PC, eternal back compatibility until the 80s.

I tried pc once. I lasted until I attempted to play Fallout 3 only to find I had to go into the ini file to get it to work on the latest Windows. I was like “nope”.

I’m a console gamer through & through. Conditioned by consoles when I was a kid. People like me are the reason MS would be making a huge mistake if they ditch consoles, i.e. consoles are a real market & not something that can be substituted with a pc.

Even the Guardian have covered all these rumours that happened lately now. Let’s hope we don’t have to wait too much longer.

I’ve been thinking about this a lot, like everyone else. If I were Phil considering this decision then I’d consider a few of these ideas:

  1. License Xbox OS to 3rd party manufacturers. Establish parity for the marketplace on PC (a cross console-PC licensing strategy would need to be worked out though). I’m not sure if they’d allow for additional marketplaces like Steam, PlayStation, Sony, etc on these devices but that could be a conversation, if they can build in a worthwhile cut of the revenue.

  2. Continue to develop the flagship Xbox console(s) for the foreseeable future, similar to the Google Pixel. The goal should be to ensure a strong an entry level price point, even if subsidized, and target specifications for other devices, including handheld.

  3. Continue to expand cloud gaming and integration across TVs and other devices.

  4. Establish a mobile Xbox OS that’s tied into the overall Xbox ecosystem (Game Pass, cross-purchase, cross-save, cross-system parity).

  5. Increase the publisher/developer cut from 70/30 to something like 80/20. Combined with increased proliferation of the Xbox OS, this could help incentivize 3rd parties to continue developing for and expand their relationship with Xbox. It may even eventually incentivize Sony to bring late-run games to Xbox, like PC.

I’m not an accountant and do have access to projections, so I don’t know what numbers would exactly be feasible, but all of these steps combined with expanding access to Xbox 1st party game would fall right in line with Phil’s communicated vision for gaming.

If something in this ballpark came to fruition, their biggest competitor would be Valve, Apple and Google (more so than Sony and Nintendo). However, it’s the kind of revenue potential and software focus that Microsoft historically succeeds at.

That is being economical with the truth. I have a few old PC games that will not work on my modern day PC like F1 GP3 , Half-Life or The Blood 2

I did not say you had to go PC. I said it was my personal reaction to the lack of preservation in the console space.

PC sometimes require a bit of work especially for old games, sure.

F1GP3 not being available anywhere, you should work a bit

For the others, Blood 2 is on Gog and Half Life on Steam.

In all cases, making thing work is always part of the game on PC, but at least it is feasable unlike on console

Anyway, I recognize the feat of MS with BC, but like everything it has its own advantages and drawbacks

Not because of their couple exclusive bangers. That’s maybe 10% of it. The marketing you’re mentioning is a bigger factor even

Honestly I can 100% believe this. I like it to be fake but I can believe it. After all Xbox doesn’t care about care fans they care about money. They’re committed to dropping the fans they currently have in search for something else.

Very hot take I know but putting the evil business person hat on for a minute.

This is 100% fake. The last point makes it so obvious. And no day and date is straight up BS.

You never can predict what happen in 10 years.

4chan is always fake. we have enough with the Sony fanboys that troll the internet and the depressed Xbox fanboys that are worse.

As much as one might be negative on Xbox right now, seeing the word “4Chan” should immediately make you not even bother to read the rest.

They are definitely a big factor, even if the majority don’t actually end up buying them, they create a perception about the brand

My point is Microsoft won’t be clear on this in any way, not in a bad way, but in a “Don’t make any promises way”. They won’t commit to saying all ABK and Bethesda are multiplatform unilaterally, why would they? They can pick and choose as they see fit. I do expect them to name specific off limits IP though.

You are mostly right. The problem is that the cost of such games is skyrocketing. In my opinion, both Sony and MS are on a dangerous path, not the same one.

4 chan leak should be fake, but it also demonstrates the current damage to Xbox brand. Back in last years this ‘leak’ wouldn’t be a leak even, but a total joke. Now some people here take it seriously, then you know the brand recognition has been shaken.
