The Big ol' Xbox 3rd Party Releases Discussion Thread (HiFi, SoT, Pentiment, Grounded) (Part 1)

Isn’t there rumblings of a Nintendo direct for next week? Maybe the plan is to let the announcements happen there as they might hVe been planned, then put out the video explaining “hey, here’s what this means for us”.

Honestly, if they decided to let things burn for another week+ just so they could announce a game at a Nintendo Direct, they deserve everything that’s happening to them.

100%. Letting everybody get their grievances out and using the next few months to cool off is waaaay better than beating around the bush and letting this linger. I hope they realize that.

I’m not worried about my digital library because they keep up access to the 360 library which is, what, in the hundred of thousands of users at best? so why would the XB1-Series library be abandoned as long as there’s millions of users there who want to keep it?

They wouldn’t be in this case anyway. What if one day MS does make a game they do want to be exclusive to Xbox? They wouldn’t be beholden to a speciific release cadence established years ago.

Nah. That is 100% bullshit from a Playstation fanboy adding their fud to this situation. Nothing will happen to game pass. CoD will 100% launch there.

I love the words that you chose: “Console Business”. Because I do believe they’re getting out of the console business. They’ll keep making consoles, sticks, portable devices designed to hardcore gamers, like the Steam Deck, the Rog Ally… but they will stop competing with the PS5, they are giving up on the idea that every house should have a Microsoft console. They will design the hardware to a niche audience.

I agree. However, other platforms have ‘ways’ to get that content back. PC is an open platform, so theoretically anything post ‘Play Anywhere’ is safe. The games pre-‘Play Anywhere’ less so.

Nintendo and Sony have dedicated modding communities, so it ensures those savvy enough can re-acquire their collections if needed.

I know a lot of FUD and stupid fake news are spreading out there like wildfire and since confidence in the brand is nonexistent rigth now every bad “new” seems to be beliavable but my fear has nothing to do with said “rumors” as Im not stupid enough to believe ramdoms nobodies. Its just a feeling I had after seeing the tweet from Phil…dont know why.

Hope Im wrong because gamepass as it is, its the best thing that has happened in gaming for a while (at least to me)

To be fair it seems like the plan was always to put out a video explaining their plan, they just didn’t expect a bunch of leaks to start (seemingly) blowing things wildly out of proportion. Maybe they want to maintain their current announcement schedule, or maybe they need more time to actually finish the “business update”.

To be fair, I COULD see a scenario where everything continues as is for gamepass but Call of Duty isn’t day one on the service. I don’t think there has been been anything to indicate this and of all things I hope gamepass is still the priority moving forward. But Call of Duty is a massive deal and will likely get special consideration on all these decisions.

Xbox fostered this parasocial relationship the fans have with them. All through the Xbox One gen when the console was considered a joke, Xbox execs held fan fests, signal boosted superfans like Tim Dog , went to fucking dinners with them. Appeared on podcasts, they did everything they could to build a loyal fanbase who felt like the Xbox division cared about them as customers. It was almost like a grassroots movement to get Xbox back in the good graces of it’s fans. Sony does this too but differently. They feed into console warrior shit and the arrogance of their rabid fanbase. If they were to do the same thing , the response would be the same if not worse.

They can’t now be surprised when they pull the rug out from these people that they feel betrayed and rightfully so IMO. They were lead to believe a certain thing. Say what you will about Tim Dog but I don’t blame him at all for saying fuck these guys.

I don’t really fault the Xbox division too much , they may have been at least somewhat sincere but Microsoft gives no fucks. I’ve been an Xbox fan for over 20 years since the original, coming off the Dreamcast. Never bought a PS2. I was a fan not because of Microsoft but in Spite of it. For years Xbox was the black sheep while other divisions and many investors wanted it shuttered, it was under Windows and Terry Meyerson for a while and we thought it might be shut down in 2016.

Now MS is involved but they want to treat it like it’s a fucking surface book or some shit and put their software on everything, not understanding it basically hands the high end console market to Sony on a silver platter.

The really shitty thing is all the toxic clowns online, the Red Dragon’s and MBGs get exactly what they wanted. Along with gaming media sycophants that wanted Sony and to a lesser degree Nintendo to be the only players and the Xbox to put all their shit on Playstation and fuck off get what they want.

While Xbox owners get gaslit and portrayed as “gatekeepers” and “angry fanboys” because we dare to be upset about getting fucked over.

Without knowing obviously, it seems like MS thinks they can keep their current Xbox userbase and generate a new revenue stream through multiplatform releases. They’ve almost all but certainly given up on competing with Playstation to overtake them in console sales, which I honestly think that’s a fair strategy because it’s highly improbably they catch up to them in sales. They’ll keep releasing new hardware for the core Xbox userbase, or whatever userbase remains, but that userbase is all but assuredly going to shrink and shrink.

Whether or not their plan benefits Microsoft Gaming is up in the air, but the shift that seems to be coming is definitely bad for the Xbox console business, even if they don’t see it yet.

yes we can all envision a scenario where hey, CoD would make more money by not being on game pass. Was that not the case with Halo, Forza and Starfield…and every time, they do. Microsoft wants CoD to be Game Passes figurehead. Because thats another step in getting it to 100m subscribers, where it will 100% make money.

I would assume it was a filming schedule issue if they are indeed putting out a video. If not, it very well could be that they’re revisiting these issues and altering their plans. Either way, there’s chum in the water and telling impatient people to wait is never going to go over well.

The reason I fear for GP is that if they are putting games on other platforms it’s clear that they no longer value their own console/ecosystem as much as we thought

If they are giving people less incentive to invest where GP currently exist then logically you’d assume it becomes less of a priority which could potentially mean they are ok with making changes if their goal is no longer to grow it the way they were

I’m not saying there going to be changes but I can’t say I#d be surprised if there is, I can definitely see them dropping the console GP option so there will only be Core and Ultimate left and only Ultimate gets games Day 1

If CoD doesn’t come day 1 or others games start skipping day 1 releases I hope they get everything they deserve

Their weakest year was either 2021 where the biggest game was Deathloop or Ratchet…or this year where its FFVIIR or Concorde.

If for whatever reason CoD is not launching on GP day one, it sucks, but it doesn’t matter much to me personally, I barely play those games. However if they were to just quit with any first party release day one on GP, it would be much worse. But unless a good source comes with that, I’m not gonna worry about that.

I would hope MS isn’t that stupid.

The biggest loser of worst case scenario wouldn’t even be just the Xbox fans, it would be a lot of gaming fans including those praying for the end of Xbox. Wanting Xbox gone will most likely be a “careful what you wish for” situation. Currently the best thing about Playstation came out of the necessity of competition, so did the best thing about Xbox.

To be fair saying I see a scenario is not the same as saying “i think this will happen”. Call of Duty is significantly beyond the scale of any game you mentioned, if there is a significant shift in strategy that in any way deprioritised gamepass then that’d be the first major change.

Again though, I don’t necessarily think that would happen and there’s been no real indication that was the case.

Depends what the plan for the business update is, maybe they got more to talk about than just the bad news we’ve all been circling around.

This thread is leaning dangerously into the "anyone who isn’t outraged like me is ‘gaslighting’ ‘crazy’ ‘clueless’ " style of angry posting.

I’ve always thought we were going to hear about their strategy beyond just consoles, so that would make sense.
