Which is why a dual boot/open console approach that has an Xbox OS but can have something like Steam as well is their only way forward
Traditional closed xbox ecosystem has no future going forward if they have no exclusives but they can probably sell a lot of people on a handheld that’s good for GP and will essentially play anything that is Xbox or Steam
Basically a Steam Deck but instead of launching with a Steam OS it launches with an Xbox OS instead with optional Steam
Referring to what? I already smell lack of transparency, if those games jump (expecially Indy, you reconsider the deal with Disney to then change course, I mean, it’s confusing to say the least), anyone can.
Yeah, well, damage is already done anyway, expecially if HIFI is going to be announced this year. Then the seal will be broken for good, any Xbox game will be associated with multiplatform at the very core of Google index, even casuals (which are less stupid people here make them) will know and act accordingly.
Tom Warren is clueless when he says “after Hi-Fi Rush, they’re not porting all their games to PS5, they’re only considering it”. Well, that’s exactly the problem and why gamers will instantly migrate to PC or PS5. Because why is it Hi-Fi Rush and not Redfall? Well, because Redfall bombed so the Playstation crowd wouldn’t have it. So what games exactly are being considered for multiplatforms? The best games. The “case-by-case basis” means they’re asking Xbox fans to fund their failures while they offer their best games to Xbox haters.
Like someone else said about PES… they are sacrificing their fanbase for a bigger, more profitable and successful business model. Is it truly going to work when Xbox fans turn into Microsoft Gaming haters? It won’t.
Well as shown, even Spider-man doesn’t sell on Steam when its a late port. Hopefully Hi Fi Rushs failure to generate revenue on PS5 will cause Microsoft to not bother.
That kind of strategy would transform current Xbox fans in Xbox haters too, you can’t spit on your fanbase like this imo. I know they are not legally nor morally obliged to do anything, but personally I would make jump (making sure to give them as little as possible in the future) and maaany others too, I guess the revenue for late ports won’t compensate for that.
Maybe this is the problem: people aren’t buying Xbox, subscriptions aren’t increasing and games are becoming more and more expensive to produce. And Starfield was supposed to be their biggest system seller since Halo 3. The result was minimal hardware growth in the US in the month it released, but in the rest of the world it delivered no results. Obviously this is their fault: oh yes, they made lots of billboards, but no TV spots which is, in my opinion, the most important form of marketing.
They have to be naive if they are thinking a majority of Xbox fans are gonna stick with them if they go multiplat even with gamepass. People prioritize convenience nowadays due to a lack time and money, and getting a PS5 will solve their problems because most of the games that comes from its rival platform is coming to that ecosystem anyway. We tend to overrate the impact of gamepass, as it’s mostly the hardcore that subscribe to it. A lot of the casuals don’t even know it exist. To be fair, a lot of it is because Microsoft is somewhat allergic to marketing lol.
The problem is Xbox doesn’t want to invest in better marketing and localization. If they wanted, they would have done it already. They spend the bare minimum on marketing and then complain if the console doesn’t sell.
I wouldn’t be surprised, just saddened at the total ineptitude of MS to market properly. I legit saw YouTube ads of As Dusk Falls with the PS branding when the port was announced. Never saw any ads for As Dusk Falls when it was exclusive.
