The Big ol' Xbox 3rd Party Releases Discussion Thread (HiFi, SoT, Pentiment, Grounded) (Part 1)

Waiting another full week after a full month of wild speculations (already damaging the brand like never before except 2013) is the latest sign of Xbox higher-ups being severely detached from reality, honestly I’m not positive about what they will say (Phil tweet was full corporate language) and it’s very likely I won’t buy any of their scheduled new hardware, the risk of disengagement (they didn’t even seriously tried with Series, how could they convince me they will try with the next?), false promises and under-delivering is simply too high, I am in the ecosystem since 22 years and I know it for a fact (except initial years, when it was an actual videogame company, not a playtest for bizarre MS strategies, from Kinect onwards). I’ll keep my consoles to play games I have, then pc is the way to outmanouver platform holders which never keep their word (all of them).

I doubt they know themselves right now, they are probably still organising it.

Hopefully but Colt hasn’t been very reliable for a while, his source could be the janitor at Redmond for all we know.

Yeah, also even if the ports strategy is minor (at the beginning it will be for obvious logistical reasons), it will fasten the decline of Xbox hardware, already at red alert levels outside anglosphere. In addition to a level of port begging for any Xbox game under the sun never seen before, I can’t fathom how anyone defining him/herself a Xbox fan could be ok with this.

I swear if Phil or anyone else will say “when everyone plays…” stupid meme I’ll seriously consider to jump pc asap and not next-gen, it would be like gaslighting Xbox fans and weaponizing media/haters against them to crush the resistance against this move.

Me outside Microsoft HQ if the rumours are true.

Outside the bubble it doesn’t matter tbh.

I think the Zune, Windows Phone, and Mixer are great examples of how rapidly things can be shut down.

The Dreamcast died pretty fast as well. For those who are financially prudent they would like to switch to alternatives before their stuff gets devalued heavily.

Yes, they’re looking at and buying into worst-case scenarios. But all of these unaddressed rumours will naturally lead to that. Coupled with MS’s history of jumping out of markets quickly…worst case scenarios aren’t so far-fetched for a lot of people.

Personally even when I don’t look at the worst case scenario I really don’t understand the business argument to be made.

If the Xbox always had a power edge over the competition, they could establish it as the best place to play. But you’re conceivably going to have a situation where the PS5 Pro will be the best place to play because there is no Xbox equivalent.

I just hope this “business update” is sooner than latter.

We have heard every rumour under the sun in the past few weeks:

  • Hi-fi Rush, Starfield, Halo, Gears, Forza, Hellblade & more.
  • Day one going away.
  • ABK not coming to Game Pass.
  • Xbox following Steam.
  • Only ABK going 3rd party.
  • Only Bethesda & COD going 3rd party.
  • First party will only be timed exclusivity.
  • No more hardware.
  • Hardware in 2026.
  • Hardware years after PS6.
  • Handheld / No Handheld.
  • New Xbox based on ARM.
  • New Xbox based on PC.
  • New Xbox being built by the surface team.
  • New console will be digital only.
  • New console will be cloud only.
  • New controller cancelled.

I’m probably missing a few dozen more, unfortunately with how passionate Xbox fans are it’s caused a echo chamber of concern at this point.

It’s just going to keep getting worse until they actually say something.

Not really, imagine a possible new Xbox customer (everyday man/woman): he/she goes to store and already finds Xbox has at best 10% of shelves space (if any), I doubt he/she will be that positive about joining the brand outside huge discounts. Another scenario: he/she searches on the internet (before buying on Amazon, so no shelves) about pro/cons and then discover Xbox is not only the one console which has all its games on pc (granted this is not a issue for many, myself included), now also other consoles have its games. The only perk is GP, but not all customers play dozens games, maybe 1-2 each year and it is objective N games have more branding power than anything and PS games are more bombastic on average, huge games are multiplatform anyway…why anyone would buy an Xbox, sincerely? Outside hardcore fan it is already a hard sell, honestly, if you add also huge localisation issues, brand presence in the world…maybe Xbox dying is just, because MS did all they could to destroy its soul from within, piece by piece.

@Hue I fear there will be some vague statements, but anyone expecting crystal clear messagging…I mean, even when they say clear and cut things, those things are contradicted by themselves some time later.

Is it just me thank feels Colts reaction is super fake. Looking directly at the camera eyes wide mouth open. Seems very fake to me. I’m not American so maybe that’s it.

If he just covered his mouth yeah maybe but looking into the camera like that seems fake. The other guy seems a bit better but still doesn’t give me much hope.

They make it out as if it’s amazingly positive new but we know it’s not. HiFi Rush and SoT are going so what is amazing enough to make that ok and not brand damaging. Spiderman to Xbox, Zelda to Xbox etc not happening.

Am I reading into it too much by side-eyeing the fact he worded it as it being okay for “Xbox ecosystem customers”?

That was my impression too.

Everything he has built over the last few years is from Xbox, damage to the brand will also damage his brand and therefore his income.

He exaggerates everything so even if he has received some good news I suspect that is too.

I suspect much of what I just said RE Colt is relevant. Although I have seen many other people mention this ‘ecosystem’ term too.

Outside the bubble, at least in Europe, Xbox is already dead.

Colt and Jez sharing the impression that we’ll be “OK” after a “Business Update” is like finding out that our spouse is cheating on us, and hearing one of her friends saying "She only had 3 one-night-stands since last year… now she said she wants to sleep with you next week. I guess you will be OK…".

Yeah, and it wasn’t even during X1 gen, so it’s 100% on this management, it’s too cheap to blame X1 launch in 2023 (like Phil did) to excuse all your errors and lack of efforts imo.

See. Then it doesn’t matter anyway.

Europeans when the only option they had for Xbox hardware was a Series S for a solid year and a half.

Ok fair enough but do we really think theres going to be such a sharp drop in the saleable value of a second hand X or S immediately following the business update that people need to sell now - i mean were not talking about house prices in 2008. if it turns out to not be as bad as they think theyve jumped the gun and it will cost them to get back in (although maybe theyve already lost too much trust - rightly or wrongly). I guess all im saying is wait a week. I cant realistically see the second hand value dropping that much too quickly.

I don’t believe that after they spent 4 weeks spreading rumors that damaged the Xbox brand, Jez and Colt have some real good news for Xbox fans, yet keep their mouth shut to protect the brand. Ridiculous. This “vision of the future of Xbox” is probably vague corporate BS that will hurt Xbox fans, but keep Microsoft gaming afloat.
