The Big ol' Xbox 3rd Party Releases Discussion Thread (HiFi, SoT, Pentiment, Grounded) (Part 1)

Maybe xbox UK was asleep during all of this?

What’s the point of this?

They’ll sell it, maybe to someone more competent in consumer business. They just axed 2k people, are you saying it’s all good and well?

Their messaging was fine this gen supposedly until recently.

They went out and fucking acquired bethesd and ABK dude.

Imagine a workd where they didnt and also didnt do any of this

Theyd be dead and half the gsmes we got on gamepass or on xbox wouldnt exist.

Oh but there’s nothing to worry about, this totally won;t effect third parties on Xbox going forward

PS4 gen was so good in Australia. Low console price, low game prices, great sales (comparable to Steam sometimes). PS5 has been awful. $800 console, $125 games, barely any good sales.

Yeah, that is surely how it would go. Lots of buyers out there lol.

Anyway, it’s a waste of time engaging with someone that is obviously high on emotion at the moment.

It was fine until 2022, then it went shit. Also why not trying to sell the actual product instead of trying strange shit like half assed cloud and smart tv (samsung only) or half hearted pc solutions? They went for 4-5 different strategies ending up not doing well a single one.

Whos satisfied? People need to actually hesr from ms on this.

Im satisfied if they have a vision with xbox in mind.

Rifht now everyone is jumping the gun based on wild rumours

For all we knkw ms only plan to release certain games and their stratrgy is to scav money off the ps userbase by improving gamepass value.

Why would it be huge? . We read all the time here that PC is the future Xbox is multiplatform, consoles are dead SONY is losing millions and has a terrible console to game ratio.

Now of a sudden PS 5 is the answer games will be huge. Don’t SONY gamers don’t game on PC? I’m very sure most who wanted to play Xbox games would have either bought an Xbox console or played the PC version or just wouldn’t look to lower themselves to play an Xbox game that spent years slagging off.

I’m old enough to remember all their false promises, you’ll excuse me if porting Xbox games to Playstation is the last straw, mostly because it won’t end up in a better support for Xbox, at all.

I do agree with the selling hardware bit. Ive said for years on this forum and others that MS need to sell more series X hardware. Its the biggest driver of gamepass.

But at the same time. Ms also went out and bought 80 billion dollars worth of 3rd party publishers fighting off sony and the ftc.

The idea that they dont care is a bit silly.

Maybe they have a plan to evolve the xbox brand and it might take some sacrfices to do it

Like I said, relenting to Sony is a bridge too far me for me and many (many) others, they’ll end up creating their worst haters (the one who will jump on PS like at X1 launch) and people who will simply disawow them and through pc will give them less money than now (me on pc). Genius.

I’m not saying all games are going to sell huge on PS, just FH in particular

Racing is huge in EU and it’s where PS dominates, I’m under no illusions that all Xbox games are magically going to sell huge units because of PS

Reagrdless, this whole strategy is a major mistake

You talk like a true Xbox fan who invested time and money in the brand. I feel the same as you.

Brand Imagine and loyalty count a lot Just any PlayStation fan . Today the Xbox brand is the gutter and still no official response from Microsoft

No doubt we’ll get a tweet from Aaron Greenberg wearing a Kojima t-shirt with an Xbox fridge in the background thinking that makes everything alright.

“This is hilarious! As long as they keep supplying me with Game Pass I don’t care!”

When do you believe Xbox will make a formal announcement / comment around this subject. It doesn’t have to be a 20 minute video a few paragraphs on Twitter/X would be enough.

I had all their consoles (not every on day one, but still) and I ditched PS for Xbox since PS3 days (when I “paused” Xbox from 2013 to 2018 I wen to pc/gamed less). I’m also very adept in pc gaming (I know to build pc) and I’m going over there because I despise both japanese console holders and pc is open BY LAW, so not even MS can make some bizarre stunt to destroy even that.

So it will work on a SONY console just not on Xbox’s own console :(. If only Xbox tried to match SONY not for In-House studios but with PR and promotions.

And what happened to the PC and cloud being the way forward. Its seems the way forward for Xbox is PlayStation 5, PlayStation 6 Ect, Ect.

Thanks for nothing Phil…

1 - What’s going to happen to Ninja Theory, Obsidian, InXile and all these other studios when they don’t sell enough copies on rival platforms? I sincerely doubt (excluding a few) most of them will sell enough to turn a net profit. I’m seriously worried for the future of those talented studios. At least the Xbox storefront and recurring revenue of GP was allowing these studios to take creative risks. We can all kiss that goodbye.

2 - I’m going to be brutally honest here. Xbox is in the position it is because of their inability to create zeitgeist games. Games that people go crazy over. Games that make casuals flock to you. Last time they had 1 was Halo 3 in 2007. We’re in 2024 now. That’s insane. That’s the reason consoles aren’t growing. To casuals their content looks unappealing PS3 failed, WiiU failed but both recovered because they kept releasing 95+ meta games consistently. Xbox had trouble breaking 90+ consistently let alone 95+. This is Phil Spencers achilles heel. Indirectly this is also his fault. Under his tenure, over 10 years, he has failed to even create 1 zeitgeist game. The Xbox community is also responsible for eating up anything MS has given us. We never demanded better.

3 - MS doesn’t have such a dominant mobile market presence to be a succesful publisher. They also are unable to create zeitgeist games like Rockstar who can sell 70+ m copies from just 1 game and that’s just a single player game. Then there’s GTA whose net profit is probably bigger than all the Xbox IPs combined. Even EA with Apex, Fifa is thinking of selling. To succeed as a publisher and grow you need to turn a profit on most of your IPs. MS has 35+ studios and I can only think of 3 that can turn a net profit. Others are unlikely. Next COD, FH6 and Candy Crush will turn a net profit but after that there’s no other game where i can say they’ll guaranteed turn a net profit.

4 - F people who are celebrating this news. These are the same people crying that MS is a monopoly and now celebrating when PlayStation has become one. This isn’t just bad for Xbox gamers it’s bad for gamers period.

5 - Netflix was a loss leader for over a decade. Now they’re bigger than ever. You don’t reach your internal goals overnight. It takes decades. GP has more subs than Netflix during the same period. They didn’t jump ship in the middle of their strategy because the growth wasn’t big enough. They created that growth because they stuck with it. We have yet to see Xbox firing on all cylinders. They were just about to start that process and they go and shoot themselves in the face.

6 - If all our fears come true and MS officially becomes a publisher and their ONLY source of income is copies sold, does anyone seriously think their games are great or popular enough to satisfy the needs of the shareholders? I don’t believe so. Some games like FH6, CC, COD will surely make them money but when you combine all the games, most with a net loss, the net profits will lower as well. What does MS do then? Gut all the studios that don’t turn a net profit? Sell them off? Imagine the chaos if COD drops off oh boy. And with MSs track record and how they (mis) handled Halo, it’s not a unlikely scenario.

7 - You would think the biggest company in the world who has repeatedly failed spectacularly in the consumer space for decades and decades would have learned from their mistakes. How oblivious can a company be in regards to consumers.

8 - What a moron have I been to have backed the wrong horse here. Should have never grown attached to a brand owned by Microsoft especially with their track record in the consumer space. All of my digital library will be gone like that. The thing is I HATE the PlayStation controller. But I also equally hate the idea of gaming on PC. My only hope is that they release a controller like the Xbox one. F symmetrical thumbsticks. I was going to use my Microsoft rewards to buy the next Xbox for me and my cousins but now I’ll probably buy a few PlayStations with that with GTA coming up. I don’t want to buy GTA on Xbox only for MS to stop supporting it when 3rd party suddenly decides to pull out. Man what a clusterf… I thought Apple was my most hated company. MS took that spot. I hope regulators do finally break up big tech including MS. Those greedy @ b…
