The Big ol' Xbox 3rd Party Releases Discussion Thread (HiFi, SoT, Pentiment, Grounded) (Part 1)

Fallout 76 was on the verge of being sunset because it didn’t have a strong enough playerbase, they put it on PS+ (increasing it’s availability as a multiplatform game) and because of the growth it has continued to get support.

People seem to forget Xbox isn’t some monolith that only cares about the overall publishers performance - individual game and team performance still matters and these teams and games can potentially benefit from having a wider range of tools at their disposal to be successful.

And to make a wider point - that does ultimately benefit us as the Xbox playerbase. Cause Fallout 76 has some great content coming up we’d never have gotten if it wasn’t pushed further as a multiplatform title.

FWIW, I don’t think Xbox is going full third party. I think it’ll continue to be a case by case basis, and that on its own is enough for me to invest in a Tier 1 Xbox platform (like Xbox console or PC). Well, that and Game Pass.

Without a guarantee that all games were going multiplatform, I’m forced to buy an Xbox.

I forgot to think how stupid it is to have Ps5/Switch exclusive skins lol

If Sony stopped making exclusive games, how many less consoles would they sell?

It would be better received from the Xbox fanbase if they at least coincide announcing this with announcing FF7R or 16 coming to Xbox soon… or something.

Square Enix is a third party publisher. That’s not even the same.

Yeah, it is expecially stupid.

It’s still a game wanted by the Xbox fan base. Yes it’s not the same as if a PS published game, but it’s still something to satisfy the fans and not make them feel like they just give away stuff without receiving anything in return.

Definitely a lot. There’s a reason why Sony pays game to skip Xbox. Their whole model is based on exclusivity and “premium” games.

It makes me think that there won’t be a PR explanation of this at all. Just a trailer with the usual “if we all play we all win” and the announcement of the brand new skins for every platform.

Honestly it will hurt the industry . There are many indie and AA games that end up becoming popular due to being on Xbox or gamepass. It will make discovery harder for those games which can lead to games underperforming

Nintendo Direct trailer incoming followed by an Xbox wire article.

If it’s on Nintendo Direct then I wonder if MS will ever appear on State of Play someday or they think that’s “bad optics”?

I mean, the whole point is that they are making an exclusive skin for each platform with this new update. Including a skin for Steam, a skin for the Epic store and most importantly to this topic - they also added a free Xbox exclusive skin to the game :man_shrugging:

If anything, they should be as willing to do this as Xbox are. Just yesterday we got news that PS5/PC ports of Dreams was canned despite being finished, and staff at Media Molecule were let go. That was a game that was gonna live and die by how big a playerbase it could build, and Sony should have done everything they could to get it on as many devices as possible.

Probably the latter. Ori was part of a Nintendo Direct in the past and people don’t view Nintendo as a direct rival.

Seeing the XGS logo in a State of Play will truly be doomsday for the whole gaming community lmao.

This will be the one and only discussion point whenever an Xbox game shows up, genius move indeed.

I only hope MS executives get some real questions about it, they can’t avoid explaining, the thing will blow up on their faces if not handled correctly.

The irony is that bad Xbox games won’t be ported.
