That Insomniac Leaks spoiler filled discussion

Seeing the profit numbers for Ratchet etc. makes it more understandable why Sony is betting so much on GAAS. Really makes the big-budget $70 onetime-purchase model seem… forgive me… unsustainable.

With a ye estimated budgets relative to time spend in dev, Last of us online probably cost sony 100 mil - 200 mil….

An X-Men game is cool, but I’m not surprised it didn’t launch with at least one co-op.

WRT price raises, wolverine is expected to bring in as much money as SM2 despite selling .5M less copies

Once 10m sold started being recognized as not enough, it rang the bells about the AAA model.

And uhhhhh that’s what TLoU 2 sold…

I bought mine new for $2… That hit the bargain bins fast.

I hope TLOU2 made money, since I want more games like it from Naughty Dog. But if it didn’t, and apparently GAAS is not a path forward for them either… like, what is the alternative for them? Something has to change.

I was thinking this too but a lower budget would have likely meant worse graphics and graphics was basically the entire marketing strategy of that game

They do not sell all units at full price.

The sony strategy is a losing strategy since the number of console owners do not rise with the game budget, so you end up with an increasing price at unit, Sony is seen as increasing its game price at 80-100 by 2027, this is a desperate move of a dying market, squeeze more money from the remaining userbase.

Another approach is Nintendo where being a gen behind, even 2, limits the budget until the tech are mastered. Of course, Nintendo strategy only works because other companies bleed money to develop and amortize the techs. Without Sony and MS, Nintendo strategy would be futile, still in the current market they are quite clever, like a parasite surviving on the back of its host.

A third approach is to make the whole community absorb equally the price of games. This egalitarian way of thinking leads to the gamepass strategy. The future will tell if it is a good or bad strategy.

To me this paints a frightening picture of the console market. Xbox business strategy was correct the whole time.

Well would you look at that. Another sign that Sony is in trouble that the fanboys will ignore.

Damage control is high today.

This is a great perspective for Marvel game fans, do not game me wrong, but the whole financials behind it is quite embarassing. I would propose that to my company, I would be probably be “retired”.

It probably didn’t lose money, but it probably didn’t make much. At this point they probably view the game as marketing for TV and Movies…

People really need to start accepting that the console only approach is not going to work for companies like Sony and MS going forward

Only Nintendo can do it these days thanks to their incredible profit margins

Sony would be best served going third party if they continue their same strategy. Otherwise they need to revamp their strategy or they will continue to be hard up for profit.

Lower pricing, not budget. Game is already on a lower budget to AAA.

When do we get the articles from “journalist” saying these leaks are good for gamers?

Absolutely, the League of eXtraordinary Xbox gamers spent months falsifying slides and developing a Wolverine animation reel just to say “Sony is worried about Xcloud and losing Call of Duty” I was the mastermind behind it, farewell!
