Interesting. The original is a fascinating game with a very unique atmosphere. I’m honestly not sure whether I like the graphical changes? Like in the second comparison shot in the article - the new image has realistic light sources and bolder shadowed areas and certainly looks less monotone than the 2002 image. But the monotone kind of captures the vibe of the game for me. That vibe being, Kate wandering through these semi-deserted landscapes that feel like they’re lost to time.
It’s too bad the original game is delisted on Xbox. If nothing else this makes for an interesting side-by-side comparison of how lighting and color choices can affect the mood of a scene.
