I very much expect the same, some of them will likely even be unlandable gas giants.
I do hope that we’ll be able to use many of them for resource gathering though. I have no idea if that’s actually a game mechanic, but I can imagine that we might need to collect a certain amount of a particular mineral or something in order to upgrade our ship. These kinds of barren planets would be great for that sort of thing.
Cool. I’m only about an hour into it so far (it’s fantastic, highly recommended) and they’re still covering Todd’s early career and pre-Starfield stuff.
Procedural generation at a developer level but everything will be baked in the final game. The systems and planets will likely all be the same for everyone.
Yep, it’s always been like this. That’s why I don’t get the concerns at all on Reddit and Twitter about how they hope we will get plenty handcrafted content too. Todd even said it’s the game by them with the most handcrafted content. But that shouldn’t be a surprise.
He did mention that the reason they delayed it was because they discussed the November release but just deemed it too risky and that it was better to delay which would suggest it’s not as far off as people expect
Still though, im expecting the full year delay, if it comes earlier then awesome but im mentally prepared for the 11/11/23 release
I’d even go one step further and say I’d straight up prefer it to release in November. I fully expect to lose myself entirely in this game, and mid-November is a hell of a lot more conducive to that than a spring or summer release. When the weather is nice I won’t want to stay inside all day playing a game.
Unfortunately I’m in the camp of those who say Xbox would never had said “first half” if they weren’t 100% certain that they’d release it in the first six months of 2023.
Let’s hope so. Starfield is a new IP after all, so it needs a lot of promotion. It is a shame that Microsoft is not doing Halo 2/3 level of marketing campaigns anymore.
I’ve been pretty critical & fearful of Starfield still being launched too early, despite the extra delay. And suffering as a consequence. But I have to say its very encouraging to hear Xbox engineers etc are all getting involved. It gives me far greater hope. I’m feeling Xbox as a whole are very much aware of this needing to be brilliant.
Just because there are barren planets doesn’t mean they can’t put interesting stuff on a limited number of them. Maybe a single crashed ship in the middle of nowhere, special mineral deposits, etc… They can also design in stuff like huge mountains, canyons, skyboxes, basically just let some of their artists go wild creating “art” for us to see.
‘Procedurally generated’ with hand crafted cities.
Still that 1000 planets is still 1000 planets and also the moons don’t forget about the moons.
We saw the moon on that E3 gameplay showcase and the area it looks massive even for a moon so imagine a full blown planet like Jupiter size lol… plus the interiors, plus all of the other stuff like voice dialogue and customization all together can really make the file size massive.
